38 First Championship

This has been a great year for basketball at . We accomplished our goals by winning the Conference race and the Big Sky Tournament.

We were basically a young basketball team with only one senior, Pat Hoke, who we will miss next year but with the development of our young players, we hope to be equally as good or better next season.

This year's basketball team established eight new records and tied one during the season but more important, they played as a team throughout the year. I want to express my sincere thanks to our student body and administration for their enthusiasm and support at our home games. The team and coaches appreciate it very much. Newell, Brett Clegg, Pat Hoke, Mark Christianson, Dan Jones, Steve Barrett. Sincerely yours,

Bus Connor Head Basketball Coach Boise State University

39 Broncos Stumble Against Bengals Boise State ran into problems as they dropped a pair of back to back games to the Idaho State Bengals. The first game in Boise, saw the Broncos drop a heated con test 65-71. Determined to strike back, the team trav eled to Pocatello one week later for the second contest in the minidome. Once again, the Bengals turned back Boise State by 74-80 in claiming the victory.

And of course Dan Jones, who has almost become a fixture under the basket, led Boise State's rebounding.

The game was a back and forth battle all the way, finding the Broncos one point behind with 3 seconds left in the game. Then came the shot by Connor. Two freshmen who contributed greatly to the win were Tom Morgan and Dominic Trutanich. Morgan and Trutanich each scored 10 points and Morgan had five rebounds.

The Broncos couldn't generate a rally in their first game against the . The evening belonged to the Wildcats as they shot an unbelievable 81 percent from the field and free throw line. Sopho more Steve Connor was high point man for the Broncos, hitting 14 of 27 from the field and firing four from the line for 32 points. Senior center Pat Hoke scored 12 points to boost his college career scoring total to 1003 points. Despite Connor's and Hoke's performances, Weber State defeated Boise State 97-87.

Idaho coach Jim Jarvis had to be held back while exchanging words with Boise State coach Bus Connor. Steve Connor was again the high point man with 17 points. Terry Miller hit 12 points, all from the field. When the smoke had cleared the Broncos triumphed 83-64.

43 Broncos Victorious Over Raging Bulldogs While the Broncos were doing a job on the Gonzaga Univer sity basketball team, the Bulldogs' coach was getting very upset. With 14:51 left in the game Coach Adrian Buoncris- tiani pulled his team off the floor due to controversy with the referees. It took some talking to get him to send his team back out. However, when he finally did the Broncos finished the job 89-65. It was Boise State's best team effort of the season up to that point. Terry Miller led the team scoring with 16 points. Steve Connor and Pat Hoke each had 15. Mark Christianson, Trent Johnson and Dan Jones also had exceptional performances.

44 Montana State Set Back By Broncos

The Broncos got off to a relatively slow start against the . However, with a change in strategy and some help from sophomore Steve Barrett and freshman Sean McKenna, Boise State rallied in the second half to win 89-86. Barrett scored 12 points including 8 of 11 from the free throw line. McKenna, scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds in his effort. In the end, the Broncos were able to hold on due to some fine shooting by guards Terry Miller and Steve Connor.

Sophomore Steve Connor pulled another miracle out of the bag by firing a 30 foot jump shot on the buzzer to give the Broncos a 67-66 win over the University of Montana. The win also gave Boise State a birth in the Big Sky playoffs. With 4:23 left Montana held a five point lead. Pat Hoke and Dan Jones brought the Broncos back up to a one point lead. Then Montana scored again leaving the Broncos down by one point with 5 seconds left. It looked like it was all over but then came the shot by Steve Connor that put it away for the Broncos. Broncos Win Tournament At the beginning of the 1976 basketball tournament, there was a four way tie between Boise State, Idaho State, Weber State, and Northern Arizona Univer sity. Boise State was matched against Idaho State; a team they had not beaten all season. Weber State was going up against Northern Arizona in the first round. The Broncos pulled out a 93 to 81 victory over Idaho State, and Weber defeated Arizona. This put the Broncos against Weber State in the championship game. The Broncos were the under dogs , and with less than four minutes to go it looked like it might be all over for Boise State. However, with the magic finishing touches of Pat Hoke and Steve Connor, the Broncos forced the game into double overtime and pulled out a 77- 70 championship victory.

48 Third Title

Our Boise State Wrestling team had some ups and downs this year, but when it came down to the final showdown they were up.

Wrestling one of the most grueling road schedules ever at Boise State took its toll. However, we managed to have a winning season and a third conference title.

The lowest point of the season was a disas

During this time the Broncos were shut out 41-0 by Cal Poly and placed 7th (the lowest in 4 years) in the strong Mountain Intercol legiate Wrestling Tournament in Colorado.

However, determination was a key to Bronco success this year and they proved to be a team to be recognized as they came back to win 7 of their next 9 matches and take away the Conference title. The suc cess of this year's team was based on a total team effort, and everyone became the win ner.

Sincerely,

56 :: Converts Victory

Boise State's track team started the season slowly, hampered by cold weather and injuries to key competitors. As the season progressed team unity began to appear and Boise State became a very competitive team in the Big Sky. Several school records were broken in the course of the year which also indicated the team determination. This year's conference meet was held at Erickson, Manager Alan Woods, Jim Van Dine, Roily Woolsey, Ronnie Gaines, Dan Jones, Greg Palin, Gary Gonell, Frank Willy, Coach Ed Jacoby. Northern Arizona University, where the Broncos competed against all Big Sky oppo nents and the 7,000 foot altitude.

Prior to the 1975 competition, the feeling was that at best Boise State Cross Country would be building toward bigger and better things. The Broncos had three returning Lettermen and the oncoming schedule was by far the most potent competition ever to be faced in this sport. After evaluating the results of the initial competition, I began to suspect that we indeed had a talented group of runners. From the dual meets, the team progressed into Big Sky Conference competition and eventually emerged as run- ners-up to an excellent University of Montana team. With the loss of only one senior and the added incentive of hosting the 1976 Conference Championships, I antici pate great things for next year's Cross Country team.

Sincerely,
