THE HISTORY Grade II Listed and rich in Cornish history, Parc Vean was built in the early 19th century and was home to Phillip Daniel of The Trelissick Estate in the 1850’s. Daniel was a descendant of former mayors of Truro, whose family built a fortune from mining in the late eighteenth century. More recently Parc Vean was also home to the youngest brother of the Bevil Warington Smyth family of famously skilled boat builders. Rodney Bevil Warington Smyth, was an experienced engineer in the second world war, whose career in boat building eventually led him to be awarded an OBE for his craftsmanship. He became the managing director of the nearby Falmouth Boat Construction company after the war, which soon became well known for the quality of its craft, thanks to Rodney’s designs. He boasted work from 46ft fishing vessels, 17-knot fast day cruisers to 9ft clinker pram dinghies which were detachable for storage. Rodney’s legacy remains within Falmouth boat builders today.
