Our New Years Resolutions

The New Year is a time to reflect on the past, learn what has worked well for us, and then determine what steps we need to make in order to move forward into the future. Wellness domains to consider might include: physical—your body; emotional—your feelings; intellectual—your knowledge; social—time spent with people who support you; environmental—making the world a better place; and occupation- al—what you do with your time. At Clubhouse we work on our goals year round, with monthly reviews of what seems to be working well and what more we could do to progress and reach our potential, and for the New Year, some of us are also making New Year’s Resolutions.

No one can go back in time to change what has happened. So work on your present to make yourself a wonderful future.

2 Celebrate January

January was named after the Roman God Janus, “God of Gateways” or the God of beginnings and endings. January 2021 is extra special, with a number of focus topics for the month. At Clubhouse we will particular- ly celebrate “It’s ok to be different” month, as well as “International Creativity Month.” We also plan to pay special attention to National Compliment Day— there’s always something nice you can find to say about someone! In addition, we are embracing some of quotes from A.A.Milne’s Winnie the Pooh—which are, in fact, very insightful! i) International Creativity Month ii) “It’s okay to be different” Month iii) National Blood donor Month iv) National Book Month v) National Hobby Month vi) National Thyroid Awareness Month vii) National Birth Defects Prevention Month, etc.

“To be inspired is great, to inspire is incredible…..”

Clubhouse Inspiration member Wendy H. is known for her kind and caring atti- tude, willing to do anything for anybody. Wendy has lived in Michigan all of her life, and has been a member here for about six years. She has done some trav- elling though, and has visited many places including New Mexico, Las Vegas, Kentucky, Chicago and Arizona, which was her favorite. Wendy loved Arizona because she especially liked the mountains and the quiet. Wendy works at the Bait Shop in Waterford, where she packages and posts worms for bait orders. Interestingly, the worms aren’t bred here in Michigan but come all the way from Canada! In her free time, Wendy enjoys her pet dog Maddox, who doesn’t do any tricks but is the best anyway because he is so absolutely loveable. She also enjoys hanging out with her boyfriend Nick, especially going out to eat, and going to the movies when they are open. It is clear how beloved Wendy is here at our Clubhouse! Hunter P. says that he sees Wendy as a mother fig- ure. He says “We have fun together, do silly things together, she always does what she can to help me out if I need anything, and includes me in her life.” Of Clubhouse Inspiration, Wendy says “It’s like family to me.”

Clubhouse Community We at Clubhouse Inspiration have recently had our online presence updated with a link to the video we made last year shared on TTI’s website at https://ttiinc.org/clubhouse/. We would like to make a new infomercial about our Clubhouse in January, including what we are about as well as members featuring in small video segments. Stay tuned for updates!

11 Game Reviews As many of you may know, I am a big fan of playing computer game’s. I would like to take this opportunity to do a review on American Truck Simu- lator. The game, which was developed by SCS Software, allows the player to haul various types of freight in the United States of America. You are also able to save money from your deliveries to start your own trucking company and customize the truck that you are driving! American Truck Simulator offers you to play single player or multi- player. If you choose multi-player and would like to play the game with others, then you will have to create a free account with Truckers MP at https:// www.truckersmp.com. This method is a lot of fun and allows you to interact with other players on the CB radio. How would I rate American Truck Simulator? It easi- ly deserves five stars. The graphics are awesome and I highly recommend the game to everyone!. It’s definitely one of my personal favorites. -Peter C.

12 Nick’s Two ceNTs (aNd TheN some) My topic this writing will be about comparing our- selves with others. I was raised Greek Orthodox Christian from a baby. Part of the religion is going to confession once in a while with a priest similar to that of Roman Catholicism. I remember as a younger man in confession the priest would often tell me not to compare myself to others. This is a hard thing to do. Everybody compares people to each other. This person is fatter or thinner, smarter or dumber, etc.… Is there good and bad comparing ourselves to others? Yes probably do I want to go into a lengthy thing about it? No, not really? Do I somehow want to tie this in with mental illness in a very clever and suc- cinct manner and win the Pulitzer Prize and go on to being lazy or cracking jokes or eating? Well that is for sure. So what does comparing ourselves have to do with mental illness? I got a t-shirt given to me that says “we are all crazy it is not a competition” it usually gets a good response from people when I wear it. With mental illness we are often labeled or put in categories that describe us. It is hard not to let that diagnosis or label or whatever you want to call it define who we are as a person or what we can accomplish in life. It’s like when Homer Simpson got put in the mental hospital for wearing a pink t-shirt and they stamped his hand with insane. He tried washing off his hand when he got out of that mental hospital but he was- n’t able to get rid of. My label of bipolar follows me around like that. I compare myself all the time with people who have mental health diagnoses and those with don’t. I compare myself with people in other ways too of course. Some of the more common one are my weight, my suc- cess, my happiness. Well I’m over my 2 cents now for sure now so I will try to sum up. I guess life has been compared to a marathon more than once so always looking to double check how someone is running next to us or what kind of Nike’s they are wearing might be a waste of time. Worry about you is something my dad would tell me growing up. Try to find your own unique way of walking or jogging in this marathon we call life and enjoy the ride. All the best for a hap- py New Year!

13 YouTube Series Review

Name of the Series: Survivor Colorado Brief Description: In this version contestants com- pete in a day’s worth of competitions. In each epi- sode they will compete for immunity which will keep them safe from tribal counsel. The losing team will go to tribal counsel and vote somebody out of the game. At the half way point, the two teams will merge and the game is then indi- vidual. At the end of the day, they will win the title of sole survivor and one hundred dollars. It is hosted by Alex Johnson, and I think he does a really good job hosting this series. Would you recommend this series? Yes, I give it a rating of 10/10! Diet Hygeine

Submitted by Miguel Q. Diet hygiene refers to a system of healthy living. The principle is to provide eve- rything the body needs to be healthy, and to avoid anything that may hinder health and wellbeing. (encyclopedia.com.) There are certain vitamins that help the skin, such as acne, there are vitamins and foods that affect the body in different ways. Some of the oils found in your diet from nuts and vegetable oils actually help the body to defeat skin issues. If you eat healthier, you have less acne or skin issues. When you lose weight it can also improve skin conditions, as there are less rashes from the friction of extra body fat. I recommend having a diet based on a lot of vegetables and fruits, but stay away from juice. Even if it doesn’t say that it contains a lot of sugar, it usually does. The only juice I recommend, in moderation, is prune juice. This can be used to relax your bowels and disinfect your system! Juice or milk should be had in smaller portions, and perhaps once per day. One of the best breakfasts to have is Quakers oatmeal, because it gives you energy for longer in your sys- tem than other cereals. I recommend not adding sugar. If you make it with skim or 1% milk, it will taste sweeter. Honey is a good natural sweetener for tea, and relaxes your sinuses to help you to breath better. An important thing to remember is being determined. If you crave something unhealthy, try replacing with something healthy that you like.

Super Bowl Sunday By: Jason V.

I am a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan and have been for about 30 years. They are the reigning champions of Super Bowl LIV (54). They beat San Francisco 49ers. My prediction this year as to who will go to the Super Bowl will be Kansas-City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. What is your thoughts on who will go? I am not planning on having a Super Bowl party this year but plan on making my favorite food which is a Chili Cheese Dip. This is a simple recipe that anyone can make it. Recipe is below: 1 can of Hormel chili 1 pkg of cream cheese (you can add less or more, as you like) 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Combine chili and cream cheese together, sprinkle with cheddar cheese, bake in the oven at 350 for 30-45 min or until cheese is melted. Serve with any type of corn or tortilla chip.
