1 NOTES

Changes to High Options As a school that is full in all year groups, Wilmslow High School has been successful in a bid to Council for additional capital funding to meet the needs of large student numbers. Over the summer a project was completed to create two seminar style classrooms out of existing space within school.

During the autumn half-term holiday, we will start work on creating a covered external eating area on the yard space in front of High Options. As the architect drawings illustrate, this will be a versatile area providing both shelter from the wind and rain during the winter months and shade from the sun during the hottest days of the summer months. We also hope the design will be regarded as providing an attractive addition to the school’s built environment.

High Options will remain fully operational during the building work but we will need to amend some of the access points. Details of this will be shared through the Student Daily Notices section of FireFly.

The Tin Drum at The Everyman Theatre On Thursday 5th October, 50 GCSE Drama and A Level Theatre Studies students travelled to The Everyman Theatre in Liverpool to watch a production of Kneehigh’s ‘The Tin Drum.’ A creative adaptation of the 1959 novel by Günter Grass, the story follows Oskar - a baby born self-aware and intelligent, who decides to stop growing at the age of three and becomes a peculiar focal point for the people surrounding him as they try to navigate bigotry, persecution and all-out conflict.

6 News from Young Enterprise Last Thursday, our new cohort of sixth form entrepreneurs enjoyed a Welcome Workshop from Suzanne Lockwood, Senior Young Enterprise Manager. She outlined the YE year and drew their attention to changes that have been made for the 1017-18 programme. This was followed by a most interesting presentation from Ben Audley, Vice President of Sales for UK and Ireland at, locally based software company, Avecto where he explained the importance of knowing “Why?” before setting up a new business. Too many people know what they want to produce/sell and for whom, but the key to success is knowing “Why?” you are doing it.

Hopefully, our students will soon know “Why?”, “What” and “For whom” as with the Christmas season approaching fast there is no time to waste.

Look out for Young Enterprise over the coming weeks.
