One of Paris’s main growth factors is new luxury hotel openings or re-openings and visitors from new developing countries, which are fuelling the luxury sector. This is shown by certain significant openings and department stores moving up-market. C’est pourquoi le Schéma Directeur de la Région parisienne élaboré sous l’égide de Paul Delouvrier avait prévu, dès 1964, de désenclaver la gare Montparnasse par une liaison de 4 kilomètres à travers Paris en direction de la gare Saint-Lazare Près d’un demi-siècle plus tard, le projet est toujours en attente ! L’une des raisons qui peuvent expliquer cette étonnante inertie tient au fait qu’une bonne partie du trafic de la gare Saint-Lazare a été détournée de celle-ci et emprunte désormais la ligne A du RER. L’intérêt d’une liaison qui relierait entre elles deux gares qui desservent toutes deux la banlieue Ouest n’est pas évident.
