He aims to solve the hot topic debated during decades and scholars have done their question of why there are such great differences in researches in a various fields over this subject. There are three international employment relations and why firms and outstanding achievements in searching for the truth of Japanese workers should take employment relationships as their employment system made by David Marsden, James Abegglen, and Ronald Dore on behalf of each period. The Construction of the Scottish Military Identity
RUINOUS PRIDE: THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SCOTTISH MILITARY IDENTITY, 1745-1918 Calum Lister Matheson, B.A. Thesis Prepared for the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS August 2011 APPROVED: Geoffrey Wawro, Major Professor Guy Chet, Committee Member Michael Leggiere, Committee Member Richard McCaslin, Chair of the Department of History James D. Master of Arts (History), August 2011, 120 pp., bibliography, 138 titles. Following the failed Jacobite Rebellion of 1745-46 many Highlanders fought for the British Army in the Seven Years War and American Revolutionary War. Although these soldiers were primarily motivated by economic considerations, their experiences were romanticized after Waterloo and helped to create a new, unified Scottish martial identity. This militaristic narrative, reinforced throughout the nineteenth century, explains why Scots fought and died in disproportionately large numbers during the First World War. 2015 Annual Report on Japan Chapter
The 2015 Annual Report on Japan Chapter 1. Membership We have around hundred members, although the exact number is not available. Our membership is renewed every year. 2. Chapter Conference As usual, our 2014 Chapter Conference was held jointly with the 21st Annual Meeting of JAIBS (Japan Academy of International Business Studies) under the main theme "Regional Innovation and its Globalization" at Hokkai Gakuen University, Sapporo, Japan on November 1-3, 2013. Of all 200 participants, around 30% are assumed to be the members of AIB Japan. (In total, JAIBS has 729 individual members and five institutional members, as of 2014). Our 2015 Chapter Conference will be held jointly with the 22nd Annual Meeting of JAIBS under its main theme “”International Business and the Emerging Economies” at Nihon University, Japan on October 23-25, 2015. JAIBS has its 5 geographic divisions from the north to the south, namely Hokkaido & Tohoku division, Kanto division where Tokyo area is located, Chubu division where Nagoya area is located, Kansai division where Osaka and Kobe area are located, Chugoku & Shikoku division, and Kyushu division. Each division holds a few divisional conferences annually where AIB Japan Chapter members are also active as presenters and discussants. 3. Linkage and Collaboration with JAIBS As mentioned earlier, most members of AIB Japan Chapter are concurrently affiliated with JAIBS. JAIBS was established in September 1994 at Waseda University under the leadership of Professor Ken'ichi Enatsu, the former Chair of AIB Japan Chapter. Establishing JAIBS is exactly the realization of our long time dream to integrate IB scholars who had been so far dispersed among various academic organizations. -

No. 8] Proc. Jpn. Acad., Ser. B 80 (2004) 359 Review Organoborane coupling reactions (Suzuki coupling) ), ) By Akira SUZUKI* ** Professor Emeritus, Hokkaido University (Communicated by Teruaki MUKAIYAMA, M. J. A.) Abstract: The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between different types of organoboron compounds with sp2-, sp3-, and sp-hybridized carbon-boron compounds and various organic electrophiles in the presence of base provides a powerful and useful synthetic methodology for the formation of carbon-car- bon bonds. The coupling reaction offers several advantages: (1) Availability of reactants (2) Mild reaction conditions (3) Water stability (4) Easy use of the reaction both in aqueous and heterogeneous conditions (5) Tolerance of a broad range of functional groups (6) High regio- and stereoselectivity (7) Insignificant effect toward steric hindrance (8) Use of very small amounts of catalysts (9) Utilization as one-pot synthesis (10) Non-toxic reaction Key words: Pd-catalyst; cross-coupling reaction; organoboron compounds; synthesis of conjugated alka- dienes and alkenynes; biaryl synthesis. French Travellers to Scotland, 1780-1830
French Travellers to Scotland, 1780-1830: An Analysis of Some Travel Journals. Elizabeth Anne McFarlane Submitted according to regulations of University of Stirling January 2015 Abstract. This study examines the value of travellers’ written records of their trips with specific reference to the journals of five French travellers who visited Scotland between 1780 and 1830. The thesis argues that they contain material which demonstrates the merit of journals as historical documents. The themes chosen for scrutiny, life in the rural areas, agriculture, industry, transport and towns, are examined and assessed across the journals and against the social, economic and literary scene in France and Scotland. Through the evidence presented in the journals, the thesis explores aspects of the tourist experience of the Enlightenment and post - Enlightenment periods. The viewpoint of knowledgeable French Anglophiles and their receptiveness to Scottish influences, grants a perspective of the position of France in the economic, social and power structure of Europe and the New World vis-à-vis Scotland. The thesis adopts a narrow, focussed analysis of the journals which is compared and contrasted to a broad brush approach adopted in other studies. ii Dedication. For Angus, Mhairi and Brent, who are all scientists. iii Acknowledgements. I would like to thank my husband, Angus, and my daughter, Mhairi, for all the support over the many years it has taken to complete this thesis. I would like to mention in particular the help Angus gave me in the layout of the maps and the table. I would like to express my appreciation for the patience and perseverance of my supervisors and second supervisors over the years. -

The Grove. Working Papers on English Studies 27 (2020): 71-82. DOI: 10.17561/grove.v27.a5 CHARLES V’S ‘ENCOMIUM MORI’AS REPORTED BY AMBASSADOR ELYOT1 EL ELOGIO DE CARLOS V A MORO SEGÚN EL EMBAJADOR ELYOT Eugenio Manuel Olivares Merino Universidad de Jaén [email protected] Abstract William Roper is the author of the first and most influential biography of Sir Thomas More, his father-in-law, finished in 1557. As stated in this source, shortly after More’s execution for high treason at the Tower of London (1535), the Emperor Charles V met Thomas Elyot then serving as ambassador at the imperial court. The content of this meeting was later on disclosed by Elyot himself to some members of More’s closest circle, among them Roper himself, whose testimony has remained the ultimate source of the episode. As soon as Charles had come to know about More’s execution, he communicated the news to Elyot and shared with him his admiration for the ex-Chancellor. Several scholars, however, have questioned the reliability of Roper’s memory in the light of historical evidence for Elyot’s whereabouts at the time of More’s death. This paper revises the main stances in the discussion of this episode, and brings into consideration other issues that might cast some light, not only on the details of this story, but also on the relationship between these two Thomases (More and Elyot) and Charles, the most powerful ruler in Europe at the time. Keywords: Thomas More; Thomas Elyot; Charles V; the King’s Matter. -
