Village Databases

Ei Compendex & Ei Backfile is the broadest and most complete engineering literature database available in the world with over 22 million indexed records from 77 countries across 190 engineering disciplines. Every record is carefully selected and indexed using the Engineering Index Thesaurus so engi- neers can be confident information is relevant, complete, accurate and of high quality.

Inspec & Inspec Backfile Fact Sheet Inspec, created by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), is one of the world’s most definitive bibliographic scientific databases, containing 16.8+ million records. Librarians of the world’s top universities have relied on the Inspec database as a trusted source for relevant, peer reviewed scientific content for over 40 years. Inspec can be supplemented with the Inspec Archive to extend coverage and contains close to 900,000 records dating back to 1898. Its records have been digitized and indexed for fast, effective searching and are enhanced with current-day Inspec Thesaurus terms and Classification codes.

GEOBASE GEOBASE consists of the latest information on the earth sciences, , geology, human and physical , and environmental sciences, focusing on, and highlighting, the human and social impacts on both. It covers 3.4+ million abstract records, providing a comprehensive geo- logical evaluation of any desired region. This includes geological structure and relation to natural resources, as well as linking management, transport, and urban planning.

GeoRef The GeoRef database provides comprehensive coverage of geoscience literature published worldwide, including the content of CanGeoRef, AusGeoRef, the Deep Sea Drilling Project, the Ocean Drilling Program, the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Research Groundwater and Soil Contamination (GSC), the Cold Regions Bibliography Project, and the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain & Ireland. Also included is GeoRef’s In Process database, featuring newly added but as-yet-unindexed content, comprising records which will be integrated in the main GeoRef database, when indexed. The content is enriched by the application of current geologic terminology and latitude/longitude location data to individual records, and is the most in-depth bibliographic database available for geology research, helping researchers address such issues as fossil fuels, shortages in water supplies, natural disaster preparedness, and more. GeoRef contains 4+ million abstract records.

EnCompassLIT & EnCompassPAT Comprised of two highly specialized engineering databases, EnCompass is trusted worldwide for providing superior insights from and patents targeted specifically for research in the petroleum refining, petrochemical, natural gas, and related energy industries. Started by the American Petroleum Institute in 1961, these databases are extensively indexed utilizing proprietary technology known as the Encompass Thesaurus. Both databases are updated weekly, with EnCompassLIT covering 1.15+ million records and EnCompassPAT 770,000+ records. With EnCompass, businesses can significantly improve the quality of technical information and accel- erate research, maximizing the value of energy R&D dollars.

USPTO & EPO Engineering Village Patents give researchers the tools they need to take advantage of the scien- tific and technical information found within the United States and the European Union patent records. Whether preparing a patent application, tracking a technology, identifying a potential collaborator or competitor, or simply learning more about work that is being done in a par- ticular field, patent documents are an essential source for thorough, successful research. The Engineering Village Patent databases contain 15.1 million patents filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and 5.2 million patents filed with the European Union Patent Office (EPO). National Technical Information Service The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) engineering database is the premier source of unclassified reports from the United States and international government agencies. Engineering Village uses controlled indexing and classification to enable researchers to retrieve relevant results, providing a vital resource for identifying the latest government developments and research . NTIS covers 2.5+ million reports conducted in 350 subject areas, including publications from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the United States Department of Energy and Defense, the Japan Ministry of International Trade and Industry, and the United Kingdom Department of Trade Industry.

PaperChem PaperChem is a database of abstracted and indexed literature created specifically for research in the Pulp and Paper industry. One of the pulp and paper industry’s most important resources for news and information, PaperChem covers targeted literature from 15 subject areas and contains 690,000+ records dating back to 1967. With 50 years coverage of the leading journals, influen- tial conference papers and critical technical reports, PaperChem gives researchers access to the information they need to be successful in their work. New records are added weekly to ensure researchers stay informed of the latest developments in the field.

Chemical Business NewsBase (CBNB) As a leading provider of worldwide chemical business news, CBNB offers timely information essential for tracking trends and developments in the chemical and industry. It includes financial and business data from influential chemical companies, the latest industry R&D news, intelligence on government legislation changes, and analysis of economic trends. With weekly updates and over 1.8 million records, CBNB is the premiere news source for chemical business information, including 300+ core trade journals, newspapers and company newsletters, market reports, company reports, press releases and other “grey literature” that is updated weekly.

Chimica Chimica provides chemistry and chemical engineering researchers with the current and trust- worthy information they need to achieve successful results. It includes a weekly updated database of engineering literature abstracts created specifically for chemistry and chemical engineering research, indexing the most influential, international chem- istry journals to keep engineers current with the latest developments in their field, including inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, applied chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engi- neering and general chemistry, with 4.6+ million records from 1970-present, 180,000+ records added per year, and 538 international chemistry journals.
