ANNA DRAGAN - Soprano

Italian soprano, Anna Dragan is of Slavic parentage but educated in Rome where she began her musical studies at the Rome Conservatoire. She was then awarded a scholarship by the Austrian Ministery of External Affairs, enabling her to go to Vienna to study with Ileana Cotrubas and to Salzburg to study with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. She was also awarded a scholarship by the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in to study with Raina Kabaivanska before going on to finish her studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome for a two year period under Renata Scotto. She also took part in the Performance Course under the aegis of the Province of Trento and the European Social Fund, in collaboration with the Arena di Verona.

She was finalist in the Yamaha Competition of 1995, in the 4th International Opera Competition Mario Basiola, and in the International Competition Giacomo Lauri Volpi.

She was winner of the following competitions: The 12th International Competition Cascinalirica The 13th International Musical Performance Competition Franz Schubert The 14th International Competition Orvieto Spazio Musica The 16th International competition In the International Competition of the (under the patronage of UNESCO) she was awarded the role of Lisa PIQUE DAME and was awarded the special prize of by the Provincia Autonoma di Trento.

She then went on to appear in both opera and on the concert platform. Concert performances include: Saint-Saëns CHRISTMAS ORATORIO; Bach MAGNIFICAT; Dvorak MASS IN D MAJOR and TE DEUM; Pergolesi STABAT MATER; as well as a concert performance of Egloge NERONE by Mascagni with the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia.

She gave the first performance of the title role of LADY EMMA by Bruno Moretti for RAI TRE.

She appeared in the role of TOSCA alongside Renato Bruson. She went on to appear at the Filarmonica in Rovereto as Violetta LA TRAVIATA. She made her debut at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo in the 2002/03 season singing Antonia LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN under Stefan Anton Reck, directed by Jèrome Savary and during the same season sang her first for Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.

She went on to be invited by the Poznan Philharmonia to take part in the IN MEMORIAM CONCERT, directed by Jose Maria Florèncio. She then was invited to sing the role of Santuzza CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA in Rome and was engaged by the di Torino for SEMIRAMIDE under Riccardo Frizza, directed by Dieter Kaegi.

She returned to the Filarmonica di Rovereto to sing TOSCA. She also made her role debut as Madeleine de Coigny ANDREA CHENIER by Giordano under Massimiliano Stefannelli, directed by Caterina Panti Liberovici, a shared production which went into the following theatres: Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo; Teatro Grande di Brescia; Teatro Sociale di Como, Fondazione Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona and Teatro Fraschini di Pavia.

Recently Anna Dragan made her Canadian debut in the season 2005/6 singing the role of Tatiana and this season she has appeared in the title roles of TOSCA and Leonora IL TROVATORE at Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater, Schwerin and the title role of TOSCA at Opernhaus Halle. She has just made her very successful debut in the Netherlands singing the role of Giorgetta IL TABARRO for Opera Zuid

Future plans include and a return to Schwerin for more performances of TOSCA.
