CAVALCADE OF AMERICAN COMICS AT LEVER HOUSE
Original works by contemporary cartoonists, featuring a "doodle sheet" by President Reagan, as well as comics posters and limited edition prints will make up the CAVALCADE OF AMERICAN COMICS, an exhibition sponsored by the News paper Comics Council at Lever House, August 20 through September 9.
The CAVALCADE OF AMERICAN COMICS includes original examples from the his tory of the comic strip, beginning with THE YELLOW KID, first published in 1896. The exhibit's rare newspaper pages of comics features represent the early cartoon characters, such as Andy Gump, Krazy Kat, Buster Brown, Happy Hooligan, Alphonse and Gaston, and Hairbreadth Harry. World famous contemporary comics, including B. C. , Spiderman, Beetle Bailey, Steve Canyon, Kerry Drake, The Phantom, and Hagar The Horrible, among many others, will be displayed. The exhibit includes the series of performing arts posters created for the Brooklyn . Academy of Music, as well as the twenty prints included in the Harry N. Abrams Limited Edition Comics Art collection.
Comics artists will be on hand every day at noon, signing posters and demonstrat ing this uniquely American popular art form.

NEWSPAPER COMICS ART AT GALLERY FELICIE
BAM's special series of posters featuring world-famous cartoon characters are part of NEWSPAPER COMICS ART, an exhibition of contemporary cartoon art at Gallery Felicie, October 13 through November 6, 1982. The BAM posters were created by twelve leading cartoonists to celebrate the performing arts at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, America's oldest performing arts center. These posters will be exhibited with a series of twenty limited edition comics art prints published by Abrams Limited Editions, plus a "doodle sheet" by President Ronald Reagan. The exhibit of NEWSPAPER COMICS ART recognizes comics as a uniquely American art form and demonstrates the collectibility of cartoon art. Such be loved characters as Kerry Drake, Nancy, Steve Canyon, Li'l Abner, Buz Sawyer, Dick Tracy, Moon Mullins, Pogo, Popeye, Beetle Bailey and many others will be represented in this exhibit. The prints and posters included in this show have been produced in cooperation with the Newspaper Comics Council. JULES FEIFFER WINS DESIGN AWARD FOR BAM ANNUAL REPORT COVER
Cartoonist Jules Feiffer was presented with an Award of Merit
from the Society of Publication Design for his illustration appearing
on the cover of the Brooklyn Academy of Music's 1980-81 Annual Report.
Winner of the Society's 17th annual design competition, Feiffer was
presented with the award on Wednesday, October 13, 1982 at Gallery
Felicie, where-his poster featuring this illustration is part of an
exhibit of NEWSPAPER COMICS ART. The presentation was made by Rita
Hillman, Vice-Chairman of BAM's Board of Directors.
The poster by Feiffer is one of a series of twelve posters de
signed by leading cartoon artists to celebrate the performing arts
at BAM. These posters are on exhibit at Gallery Felicie through
November 6, 1982, along with a series of twenty original cartoon
lithographs published by Harry Abrams.
Feiffer, known for the satiric wit of his cartoon feature "Feiffer,"
is seen in New York's VILLAGE VOICE and in approximately seventy-five
newspapers in the U.S. and Europe, as well as in PLAYBOY magazine. He
has also published cartoon collections, a novel, and plays.
Gallery Felicie is located at 141 East 56th Street and is open
Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 11:00am to

PRESIDENT REAGAN' S DRAWING
TO BE FEATUREDAT COMICART SHOW
A new show "Newspaper Comic Art", works by contemporary cartoonists, featuring a doodle sheet by Ronald Reagan· framed together with an autographed color photo of the president, will open at the Felicie Gallery on October 13th and continue through November 6th. Included in the exhibition will be 20 Limited Edition Comic Art prints published by Abrams Original Editions and a series of performing arts posters created for the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Comics are one of America's best-loved art forms. Annie, Superman and Popeye have become movie stars having caught the fancy of the American public. Cartoon art has won major historic stature bringing this form of pop art into the fine arts mainstream. Work of comic artists exhibits in collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Louvre in Paris and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. Yale University's museum also houses a distinctive collection of comic art, and the University of Brazilia, in Brazil, offers a course in comic art.
Kerry Drake, Nancy, Steve Canyon, Li'l Abner, Buz Sawyer, Mandrake, Prince Valiant, Dick Tracy, B.C., Moon Mullins, Pogo, Barney Google, Popeye, Mary Worth, Beetle Bailey and many others will be represented in this show which will delight all those who lo.ve these wonderful comic characters. This series of limited edition comic strip art has all the exuberance and affec tion the artists have poured into their comic characters over the years. The prints and posters included in the show have been produced with the co operation of the Newspaper Comics Council.
