GOBELINS and Netflix strengthen their partnership in favour of the emergence of new talents in animation Paris, November 3rd, 2020 - One year after the establishment of a partnership aimed at identifying and developing new talent in animation, Netflix and GOBELINS announce a new chapter in their collaboration with the creation of scholarships for three Bachelor's students, a new post-baccalaureate course. This new chapter of action complements the initiatives already in place with, in particular, the financing of scholarships for Master students from the African continent and the integration each year of a young graduate from GOBELINS into the Netflix Animation Fellowship programme. A broadening of the partnership set up in 2019 On the occasion of the start of the 2020 academic year, Netflix and GOBELINS are strengthening the partnership set up in 2019 with the creation of scholarships that will give three students each year access to GOBELINS' education as part of the introduction of a Bachelor's degree. This new course aims to master all animation techniques, both traditional and digital (2D and 3D), from pre-production to post-production, using professional methods practised in animation film studios in France and abroad. The first beneficiaries of this character animation apprenticeship scholarship programme will be appointed in June 2021. "We are proud to help foster the emergence of new talent from diverse backgrounds alongside GOBELINS. With this new chapter of our collaboration, we will also be able to support younger profiles with just raw talent and their highschool diploma in their pockets", said Dominique Bazay, Kids & Family Director at Netflix.

They set up in business in 1932 selling toys to friends and by mail order from their flat in Tavistock Square, London. Demand was such that in 1936 they opened a child friendly shop at 94 Wimpole Street, designed by their friend the architect Ernö Goldfinger. The Abbatts were his main clients at the time and he designed toys and nursery equipment for them. They were concerned with the play needs of children in general, introducing a range of toys for children with physical disabilities devised by Milan Morgenstern. In 1951 they were instrumental in setting up the Children’s Play Activities Trust Ltd. to promote excellence in toy design and manufacture. After Paul Abbatt died in 1971 the business was bought by the Educational Supply Association. William Britain Ltd. Britains Ltd. was founded by William Britain in London in 1840. At first Britains made tin and clockwork toys and from the 1890s they made model soldiers. It also opened an office in Paris, France in 1905. The company made munitions for both world wars. In 1954 Herald miniatures, makers of unbreakable plastic toys, became a subsidiary of Britains. In 1966 Britains ceased to manufacture its metal soldiers. It was purchased by Ertl Co. in 1997. December 11, 2020 SoftBank Group Corp. Sale of Shares in Subsidiary Boston Dynamics, Inc. SoftBank Group Corp. (“SBG”), through one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, today announced that it agreed on main terms of a transaction with South Korea-based Hyundai Motor Company and its affiliates (collectively “Hyundai Motor Group”) and Euisun Chung, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, pursuant to which (i) SBG, through one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, will sell the majority of its stake in Boston Dynamics, Inc. (“Boston Dynamics”), a U.S. subsidiary of SBG that develops and deploys highly mobile robots, to Hyundai Motor Group and Euisun Chung, and (ii) Hyundai Motor Group and Euisun Chung will subscribe for additional shares of Boston Dynamics (collectively, the “Transaction”). The Transaction values Boston Dynamics at USD 1.1 billion and, subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions, is expected to close by June 2021. Upon completion of the Transaction, Boston Dynamics will cease to be a subsidiary of SBG and no longer be consolidated into SBG’s financial results. SBG, through one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, will retain a minority stake in Boston Dynamics. 1. Transaction rationale Since SBG, through one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, acquired Boston Dynamics in February 2018, SBG and Boston Dynamics have enjoyed a highly successful partnership, with SBG aiding in the transformation of Boston Dynamics from a world-renowned R&D facility into a leading- edge commercial enterprise. In the course of its regular reviews of its portfolio companies to ensure it is maximizing value for its shareholders as a global investment holding company, SBG determined that now is the right time to bring Hyundai Motor Group, one of the world’s leading global mobility companies, into the partnership.

  • Design of a Flying Humanoid Robot Based on Thrust Vector Control
Design of a Flying Humanoid Robot Based on Thrust Vector Control Yuhang Liy, Yuhao Zhouy, Junbin Huang, Zijun Wang, Shunjie Zhu, Kairong Wu, Li Zheng, Jiajin Luo, Rui Cao, Yun Zhang, Member, IEEE, and Zhifeng Huang∗, Member, IEEE Abstract— Achieving short-distance flight helps improve the efficiency of humanoid robots moving in complex environments (e.g., crossing large obstacles or reaching high places) for rapid emergency missions. This study proposes a design of a flying humanoid robot named Jet-HR2 (Fig. 1). The robot has 10 joints driven by brushless motors and harmonic drives for locomotion. To overcome the challenge of the stable-attitude takeoff in small thrust-to-weight conditions, the robot was designed based on the concept of thrust vectoring. The propulsion system consists of four ducted fans, that is, two fixed on the waist of the robot and the other two mounted on the feet for thrust vector control. The thrust vector is controlled by adjusting the attitude of the foot during the flight. A simplified model and control strategies are proposed to solve the problem of attitude instability caused by mass errors and joint position errors during takeoff. The experimental results showed that the robot’s spin and dive behaviors during takeoff were effectively suppressed by controlling the thrust vector of the ducted fan on the foot. The robot successfully achieved takeoff at a thrust- to-weight ratio of 1.17 (17 kg / 20 kg) and maintained a stable attitude, reaching a takeoff height of over 1000 mm. I. INTRODUCTION Recently, various disaster-response humanoid robots have Fig.
