There is pleasure and enjoyment in hiking with good friends in the Club and expr9ring the various areasof the Hoosier State . During the year the Club sponsored 319 hikes including one backpa..s=:k.· The Cl~b also had three weekend outings ae well as four General Assembly meetings, the annual Christ mas par·ty and the summer picnic. Paid up membership at the end of the year,. was·· 4.90, . • 1 - ' f..,. .... ,......... ading the Club's activities each year are the unpaid volunteer officers whose e fforts have Jntributed so much to the success of the organiza tion . Johnson 20 326 Margaret Flack 26 124 YOUR SUGGESTIONS AND ADVICE FOR THE GOOD OF THE CLUB ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED BY THE OFFICERS. The pathfinder is looking for new leaders as well as for new places to hike. And the social --. officers appreciate any help in planning programs or helping on refreshments. The General Assembly meetings, the Christmas party, and the summer picnic are good times to visit with other membe rs - so come out as often as you can. THIS IS YOUR CLUB! BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER! SPECIAL ACTIVITIES GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETINGS - These business and social general meetings are open to all members and their invited guests. They are held four times a year and they provide excellent oppor~ tunities to learn more about future plans for the Club as well as to enjoy a good program. The November meeting featured Robert Meurer's slide program "From Sea to Shining Sea" on the National Parks . In March "Appalachian Ti;ail Reflections" was presented by Bob Corya and assisted by Will Harrer and Tom Patterson. Bill Brink'sma:velous pictures of the wildlife at Eagle Creek was the programof the May meeting. The_·election of officers was -a feature of the September meeting, Tim Maloney of the Hoosier Envirorunenal Council gave an illustrated talk on the Hoosier National Forest, and brought us up to date on f~ture plans . ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY - What a wonderful way to enjoy the holiday season with good friends in the Club. A large turn-out enjoyed the pitch-in supper which was followed by a musical program by the Northview Middle School choir. Santa ~in Pulsif~r) gave out apples to all the good boys and girls (and adults). ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC - On a beautiful Saturday in July. we ·an met in Shelter "B" at Eagle Creek. The morning hikers left at 10:00 AM on a walk and the rest of the people who were coming for the picnic arrived in time for the pitch- in. Gerry O'Reilly, as usual, got everybody in the mood for some crazy outdoor games. Ask Gerry about the raw egg down her blouse. THE TRAIL BIAZER 1990 EDITION THE INDIANAPOLIS HIKING CLUB Page 3 WORK ON THE KNOBS70NE TRAIL - On a hot day in October, 7 members of the Club worked on the Knobstone under the direction of Mike Martin of the DNR . They put in SS steps, 35 waterbars, and 150 feet of cribbing. The hel p of volunteers such as this is needed to maintain th~ trail. This long distance trail in southern Indiana is of particular interest to the Club, - ·d all members are urged to watch the schedule for the next time we plan a work detail. WEEKEND OUTINGS WINTER WEEKEND AT McCORMICK ' S CREEK STATE PARK - Approximately 70 people enjoyed this beauti ful park in the middle of winter. Lisa Schools, naturalist, gave us an illustrated talk and also had some of her wild f riends to show us. Enjoyed ·the socia 1 hour Sunday evening in Oak Room. And we got in a total of 15 miles hiking. GNAW BONE CAMP - This was the Club's twentieth ou ting at Gnaw Bone. Saturday evening we gathered in the Shelter to watch a clogging show put on by Jim Ernsting and some of his fel low cloggers. After the noon cook-out on Sunday, many enjoyed the activities at the lake, while others did their own thing near the cabin area . The afternoon social hour was a special occasion. Sunday evening at the Gnaw Bone Palace, we enjoyed the special music of Gerry Gray, Jerry Hammons, and G. R. & Carol Davis. During the Monday Memorial Service on the true meaning of the Holiday, we listen~ d as Allen Pekar played taps in the distance. During the weekend we got in a total of 18 miles on the trails. It was a great Memorial Day weekend. NEW HARMONY - Labor Day Weekend found us at New Harmony, Indiana. We hiked a lso at ~earby Harmonie St ate Park on Sunday. The New Harmony lodge was a beautiful setting for our activi ties. All of us got toget her one evening for a social hour. We explored the historic 0ld town of New Harmony on two different hikes. The Red Geranium restaurant next door to the lodge was enjoyed by many. Got in about 15 miles of hiking during ·the weekend . REVIEW OF THE SCHEDULED HIKES J!"" tober started with a hike from Glendale to the Circle .
