Last Time Out The Arizona Wildcats had a split weekend in Oregon, pulling out one victory and falling to one defeat. Against Oregon State the Cats rallied with a 3-1 win with goals coming as early as the eighth and 13th minutes by Jill Aguilera and Ava Hetzel. Jada Talley headed up the back with the final goal in the 55th minute. Keeper Hope Hisey recorded four saves, only allowing one goal. Against Oregon, the Cats put up a valient fight, not allowing a goal in almost 85 minutes of game play. After nine shots, three corners, and three saves, the Ducks were eventually able to put one in, denying the Cats overtime play.

Can’t Stop Scoring The Wildcats have scored 17 goals this season. Of the 17, there have been eight goal scorers over all four Arizona classes. This is only four less than the final total in 2019 (12). Of the 17 goals this seaosn, 10 have been by Seniors, three by Juniors, one by a Sophomore, and one by a Freshman. There are currently three Senior goal scorers, three Juniors, one Sophomore and one Freshman.

New Faces The Arizona Wildcats are welcoming 14 new players to Tucson, with 13 of them being freshmen. This will be the largest freshman class under Amato’s leadership. The very talented group of newbies make up half of the team and bring with them a whole lot of reputation. So far the Fresh- man class has contributed to one goal, four assists, and 25 shots.

Stayin’ Clean Arizona recorded three clean sheets in a row against UTEP, New Mexico State, and NAU. The last time the Cats recorded this many shutouts in a row was in the beginning of the 2020 season where they shut out five opponents. All three matches this season have been manned by keeper Hope Hisey.

Record Breaking Forward Jill Aguilera has spent this season breaking personal records. In the 2020 season she scored five goals in the her first seven matches (her previous record being four) and scored three matches in a row (her previous record was two). To put it in perspective, in 2019 she scored nine goals over 20 matches. In just seven games this season she is over half way to breaking that record. She is also half way to breaking Jada Talley’s school record of 10 goals in one season. In addition, forward Jordan Hall, and defenders Ava Hetzel, and Madison Goerlinger set personal records against NMSU as they all earned their first career assist and against Oregon State Hetzel scored her first career goal.

Keeping it real Sophomore keeper Hope Hisey had manned the goal with style this season. She has recoreded 26 saves with a percentage of .765%, only allowing eight goals. She led the team to the three shutouts along with keeping each opponent from scoring more than three goals.

Oldies but Goodies The 12 Arizona returners are coming back to the pitch with a fire beneath them. In 2019 they scored a collective 28 goals, had a collective 16 as- sists, and broke multiple school records. The returners also contributed to the 2019 team scoring the most goals in school history (41). So far this season all of the goals have come from returnerners as well as 66% of assists and 73% of assists.

Double Trouble Arizona’s dream team is back on the pitch this season. Forward Jill Aguilera and Forward Jada Talley are to credit for almost 1/2 of the goals scored in 2019 and over a 1/3 of the assists made. Both of their playing rights were recently acquired by NWSL teams. Aquilera was acquired by Chicago Red Stars and Talley by Racing Louisville FC. Both will continue to tear up the pitch with Arizona in the Spring and Fall of 2021. They started the 2020 season off with a bang each scoring their first goal of the season and Aguilera collecting her first assist of the season against GCU. Aguilera went on to score a brace against UTEP, they both scored on NMSU, and Talley scored an assist and a lone goal against NAU. In the match against UCLA, Aguilera shined by assisting Arizona’s only goal of the night.

In The Net This season, Aizona’s star Goalkeeper has some new Wildcats joining her in the net. Hisey, who made an appearance in 17 mathces in 2019 includ- ing every Pac-12 and NCAA match, proved to be a crucial asset to the team. She aided Arizona in seven shutouts, including three.against Pac-12 teams and one against TCU in the first round of NCAA Tournament play. This season Arizona is welcoming two new keepers to Tucson, Freshmen Samatha Hauk and Alani Mexia. Samantha made her debut against NMSU where she saw the goal for the later part of the second half.
