RAY OF LIGHT • Freshman point guard Macy Ray has come into her own, taking the reins of the UIW offense and steering them to success. • In her last three games she is has totaled 25 points, 13 assists and nine steals while committing just five turnovers in 94 minutes. • Consistently a viable defender, Ray’s offensive play has grown dramatically over the last month. She is choosing her shots well, shooting 47.4 percent (9-19) from the field over her last three games, including 45.5 percent from three (5-11). • In her first collegiate start, Ray nearly managed a double-double, scoring 13 points and gaining nine assists against Rice (12/29), all season highs. She also recorded a season-best four steals in the contest, while committing just one turnover in a team high 36 minutes of play.

SCOUTING NICHOLLS • The Lady Colonels enter play with a 7-6 (1-0 SLC) record. • They defeated Northwestern State at home in their conference opener, 97-86, gaining 37 of their points from the free throw line. • The biggest threat to UIW will be senior guard Cassidy Barrios. Last season’s Southland Player of the Year is back at it for her senior season, averaging 20.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists this season. • This will be the first and only meeting between UIW and Nicholls in the regular season. The all-time series is tied, 4-4. • UIW is 3-0 against Nicholls in the Christy Smith era.

Imani Robinson named preseason first team All-Southland Conference

University of the Incarnate Word women’s basketball junior guard Imani Robinson was named to the Southland Conference Preseason First Team, announced the league office in Frisco.. The announcement comes in anticipation of the 2018 Southland Conference Basketball Social Media Day at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston. Robinson also earned All-Southland hon- ors following her performance during the 2017-18 season.

Robinson is the first preseason first team All-SLC selection in program history for UIW.

This is yet another in a string of conference recognitions for the Round Rock, Texas, native. Robinson was named 2016-17 South- land Freshman of the Year two seasons ago and finished last year with third team All-SLC honors.

The junior is coming off a season in which she scored 368 total points, the most of any Cardinal in a single season since joining DI, and the most since 2009/10 (Nia Torru).

Adams joined the UIW staff in 2016 after serving two years as a graduate assistant for the Arkansas women’s basketball team. She is a Monticello, Indiana native and comes from a rich basketball background. Prior to joining the Arkansas staff, she worked as an assistant coach at Cypress Lake High School in Ft. Myers, Florida.

As a player, Adams was a three-year letter winner and two-year captain for Valparaiso from 2008-11. She finished her career at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2013, having scored over 1,000 points and making over 200 three-pointers in her career.

Adams earned her Master’s degree in sport and recreation management at Arkansas in 2016 and earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration at Valparaiso University in 2012.

Clark was brought onto Coach Smith’s staff back in 2016, after the two worked together at Arkansas. Clark was a graduate assistant for the Arkansas women’s basketball program for two seasons (2014-2016). He was instrumental in an NCAA Tournament appearance and first round victory in 2014-15. His duties included assisting with day-to-day operations, organizing and recruiting the male practice team, film breakdown, film exchange, player development and practice planning.

Prior to Arkansas, Clark worked for Krossover Intelligence in 2013, a basketball video analysis company that breaks down high school, college and professional games. He has worked numerous basketball camps including: Bill Self Basketball Camp, Jimmy Dykes Basketball Camp, Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball Camp and the New Orleans Hornets Basketball Camp.

He played basketball at St. Gregory’s University and helped lead the team to an NAIA Final Four appearance as a senior. He earned a degree in social studies education from St. Gregory’s in 2014 and his Master’s degree in sports management from Arkansas in 2016.

Walker has nearly 20 years of coaching experience, including the three at his prior ob as the athletic director, basketball, football coach and physical education teacher at St. Luke’s Episcopal School. Prior to St. Luke’s, he spent one year as an assistant coach at Binghamton University and two seasons at Trinity University. He was a volunteer assistant for the Tigers in 2010-11 before being promoted to a full- time assistant his second year.

Walker spent five years as the head coach for St. Mary’s Hall girls’ basketball. He led the Barons to spectacular improvement during his time. In his first year the team only won two games, but they registered 37 victories over his final two seasons at the helm. He was previously an assistant at San Antonio Taft High School for a team ranked No. 1 in Texas, and advanced to the 5A state semifinals in 2004.

Walker founded Infinity Hoops, a one-on-one basketball training company and has extensive experience in training athletes ranging from elementary school through college. He has other coaching stops at Mosley High School in Florida and The Episcopal School of Texas. He is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC), the Black Coaches Association (BCA) and the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA). He was selected as the coach of the 2005-06 TABC Girls All-Star Game and the TGCA All-Star Game.

He owned a 116-58 career record as the Blue Wave head man, including five district championships and a final four appearance. He also served as a Behavior Support Specialist at PKY.

Prior to his days in coaching, Blackmon played two seasons for the Horsholm 79ers in the Basketligaen, Denmark’s professional basketball league. He played collegiately for three seasons at Charleston Southern after starting his career at Indian River State College.

Blackmon earned his degree in Social Science from Charleston Southern in 2012. He earned his master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2018.
