It was the 18th Hills Relay For Life and before the first lap by cancer carers and survivors, had even happened MC Gareth McCray announced that the Hills community already raised $4 million for cancer research and support programs since its first Relay For Life event. Anita Dessaix from the Cancer Cancer, Director of Cancer Prevention and Advocacy praised the work of the volunteers and particopants. Hills Relay For Life Patron and Hills Shire Mayor Michelle Byrne said the fundraising enabled researchers to actually get on with the job of researching instead of chasing funds. Kevin McElduff from Bella Vista (pictured) walked for the entire 24 hours and was cheered home on the last lap by a crowd including his grandchildren and Bananas in Pyjamas. An estimated crowd of 4000 people were part of the day which showcased local entertainers and highlighted healthy lifestyle messages.
