We added the wine pairing which was perfectly matched to the The Painted Lady menu. Service was fantastic. Tasting menu was nice. Every course was good. The wine tasting did not match up though. Both sweet wines needed help. Sad they could not use more local wines. Time to support your neighbors. Service was a bit rushed. We had the table all night Overall good but not worth a return visit. This is a perfect restaurant for gourmet foodie adventure, with a pre-fixe menu that is seasonal, creative, and so delicious. The restaurant is in a gorgeous Victorian home. The service is attentive and knowledgeable. The entire experience is decadent. After a day of wine tasting, the Painted Lady awaited. Not being hungry, we opted for 5 courses vs 8 and one tasting menu without beef. This meal was spot on! Service was perfect. It's worth The Painted Lady price and less than tasting menus in major cities. This is a wonderful restaurant. The ambiance is sophisticated and elegant. The 8 course Tasting menu was terrific. Each course was a work of art and a surprising combination of flavors. The wine pairing was excellent with several good, The Painted Lady unknown local wines. This meal The restaurant also has a very large wine available. Do not miss this first class venue. This was our third visit to The Painted Lady. With her panache and charisma, she finds more than an auction, a rekindled interracial love affair, helpful relatives, and a painting of great price. She finds more than she bargained for in the labyrinth and milieu of stolen art. Helen Mirren is always a joy to watch as The Painted Lady gets her chops around a part. I think she had fun here tramping skillfully through several cultures, costumes, and accents. It looks like she The Painted Lady sing, too. The Irish bit got lost along the way, however. The house and scenery are great wherever we are. And there are some pretty good supporting players on the trip. I think the writing on the initial screenplay sounds like it was good, from the featurette on the DVD, but somewhere along the road, either in the directing or the editing perhaps, something essential got lost. My willing suspension of disbelief went with it. Nice try, sort of fun to watch, except for Nero, who should burn with shame for his hamfisted acting. Why would Helen ever fall for him?! This is girls who take their clothes off on a bar top, and they are cranky when they get told such. You can call your artform whatever you like, but if your missing the key elements of what makes a specific type of dance, a dance, don't degrade those who actually know how to do it with your poor interpretation. • Gender Dynamics in TV Series the Fall: Whose Fall Is It? Adriana Saboviková, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia1
Gender Dynamics in TV Series The Fall: Whose fall is it? Adriana Saboviková, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia1 Abstract This paper examines gender dynamics in the contemporary TV series The Fall (BBC 2013 - 2016). This TV series, through its genre of crime fiction, represents yet another way of introducing a strong female character in today’s postfeminist culture. Gillian Anderson’s Stella Gibson, a Brit and a woman, finds herself in the men’s world of the Police Service in Belfast, where the long shadow of the Troubles is still present. The paper proposes that the answer to the raised question - who the eponymous fall (implied in the name of the series) should be attributed to - might not be that obvious, while also discussing The Fall’s take on feminism embodied in its female lead. Keywords: female detectives, The Fall, TV crime drama, postfeminism Introduction Troubled history is often considered to be the reason for Northern Ireland being described as a nation of borderlines - not only obvious physical ones but also imagined. This stems from the conflict that has been described most commonly in terms of identities - based on culture, religion, and even geography. The conflict that has not yet been completely forgotten as the long shadow of the Troubles (local name, internationally known as the Northern Ireland conflict) is still present in the area. Nolan and Hughes (2017) describe Northern Ireland as “living apart together” separated by physical barriers. These locally called peace walls had to be erected to separate and, at the same time, protect the communities.

I responded quite honestly: “High School Nettie wouldn’t have been surprised. She knew where we were heading.” She absolutely did. I have always been pretty sure I would end up with an advanced degree and I have always known what that would involve. The only question was one of how I was going to get here, but my favorite thing has always been watching television and movies. Once I learned that a job existed where I could watch television and, more or less, get paid for it, I threw myself wholeheartedly into pursuing that job. I get to watch television and talk to other people about it. That’s simply heaven for me. A lot of people helped me get here.

  • Moira Armstrong
Women in TV: Moira Armstrong BFI’s annual strand highlighting the role of women behind the TV camera celebrates the television director’s 50 years in the industry Month long season includes screenings of Testament of Youth (1979) and The Girls of Slender Means (1975), plus a career interview on Tuesday 19 August Monday 23 June 2014, London. Throughout August BFI Southbank will pay tribute to the outstanding achievements of BAFTA award-winning television director Moira Armstrong with a dedicated season. A recent report from Directors UK, which analysed a decade’s worth of British TV, revealed a decline in the opportunities for women directors in drama, entertainment and comedy in particular. With this debate at the forefront of the industry, BFI Southbank’s annual strand showcasing the contribution made by women behind the camera provides an opportunity to highlight the work of key female drama director. Armstrong began directing in 1964; her early work embraced famous strands such as The Wednesday Play, but she is perhaps best known for Testament of Youth (1979), which will screen in its entirety as part of the season. This dramatization of the autobiography of Vera Brittain showed, through the eyes of one young girl, the effects of WWI on a whole generation. The series’ success was in no small measure due to Armstrong’s many talents as a director: impeccable casting; the ability to draw out great performances; an instinct for the deeply-human centre of the story while eschewing over-sentimentality; and a great visual eye. Another series that played perfectly to Armstrong’s strengths was The Girls of Slender Means (1975), adapted by Ken Taylor from the novel by Muriel Spark.
