Wesley Music Centre Media Release MOZART, BEETHOVEN, SCHUBERT 4 HANDS Friday 28 March 7.30pm Arnan Wiesel Aaron Chew Caleb Wong An exciting evening of 4 hands music by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert and some of their lesser known contemporaries of the 18th and 19th Centuries such as Ferdinand Ries, Johann Hummel and Friedrich Kalkbrenner. Four hands music was a popular music making medium and the concert offers a chance to hear some rare repertoire never played in Canberra before. Poetic and fun!! Arnan Wiesel is a former Head of the ANU School of Music Keyboard Area. He is a winner of national and international prizes including Israel’s highest prize for young musicians, the Francoix Shapira Prize. Arnan’s career as solo and chamber musician has taken him to Australia, USA, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Israel. In Australia he has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australia Ensemble, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Festival, in numerous ABC Live concerts, the Hunter and Huntington festivals, and in the Canberra Chamber Music Festival. Aaron Chew has won numerous piano competitions including the National Eisteddfod open section in 2010, and performed extensively around Canberra. He is currently studying with Prof. Larry Sitsky and Arnan Wiesel. Aaron was awarded the ANU Winifred Burston Memorial Prize in 2012 and the Margaret Smiles Accompaniment Prize in 2013. He has performed in the Canberra International Music Festivals, various concerts and ceremonies and has recorded with ArtSound FM Canberra. Caleb Wong (age 16) is one of three young Australian pianists chosen to perform in a masterclass with Lang Lang at the Sydney Opera House (2011). He studies piano with Arnan Wiesel and cello with Uzi Wiesel. He has won numerous awards in Eisteddfod competitions both on Cello and piano, gives regular concerts and has also broadcast for Fine Music 102.5, ABC FM Riverina, and ArtSound FM Canberra. He was a recipient of Sydney Eisteddfod Performance Grant in 2013 and is a recipient of Australian Youth Orchestra Ernest Llewellyn Scholarship this year.
