Route Or Where the Highway, Or a Portion Thereof, Has Been Designated As One Way State of Connecticut Department of Transportation 2011 Traffic Volumes State Maintained Highway Network (Traffic Log) Prepared By Division of Systems Information, Bureau of Policy and Planning In Cooperation with U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Highway Administration PREFACE TO THE 2011 TRAFFIC LOG The Traffic Log lists the estimated average daily traffic volumes (ADT) for segments of highway where significant traffic volume changes occur. Town lines are shown for reference purposes. The ADTs shown in this Traffic Log are estimates of the number of vehicles passing through the defined section of highway on an average day in 2011 for both directions of travel combined, except where a ramp serves as the main line of a route or where the highway, or a portion thereof, has been designated as one way. In addition to the ADT and the length of the highway section to which it applies, the entry “OVLP” appears in the body of this log. The term “OVLP” means, “overlap” and is used to indicate that the ADT volumes will be found on the route being overlapped. The ADTs shown should not be used for point-specific locations. Information regarding estimated ADTs for specific locations may be obtained by contacting the Traffic Monitoring and Data Analysis Section at (860) 594-2093.     B-12 WEDGE-SHAPED STRUCTURES IN BEDROCK AND DRIFT, CENTRAL NEW YORK STATE P. Jay Fleisher SUNY, College at Oneonta INTRODUCTION 'Wedge-shaped structures resembling ice-wedge casts and fossil ice veins have been found in both bedrock and drift hosts on the eastern Appalachian Plateau of central New York. These features are exposed in the walls of four separate borrow pits at three different localities within the upper Susquehanna River drainage, south of the Mohawk Valley and northwest of the Catskill Mountains. All three localities are within otsego County and can be found on the Milford, Richfield Springs and Mt. Vision quadiangles. The index map of figure 1 illustrates the location of each site as well as their general topographic setting. Based on their respective locations they are referred to as the Crum­ horn Mountain, Fitch-Metcalf, and Laurens-Nt. Vision sites. The purpose of this paper is to review the physical characteris­ tics and occurrences of these wedge structures and consider what, if \ &ny, paleoclimatic significance they hold. A review of the literature indicates that previous authors have reported many features in various parts of the northeast as being related to periglacial processes. The main question under consideration is whether the structures discussed here are in any way related to permafrost processes. A variety of permafrost and frost related features have been reported for the New Fngland area by Denny (1951), Kaye (1960), and Keteff (1961). The work of Denny (1936), Smith (1949, 1953), and Wolfe (1953) suggest the significance of periglacial processes that once occurred in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Parts of this guide have been modified from reports by EL and MW and are so indicated. There are two purposes of the trip: (1) The oldest rocks of the Taconic allochthon (originally deposited on the east Laurentian margin of the Iapetus Ocean and at least 75 km east of its present location) and coeval shelf margin rocks in the Green Mountain anticlinorium (not seen on this trip) indicate a surprisingly late persistence or rejuvenation of Iapetan rifting. Although Iapetan rifting began in the later Ediacaran, the oldest record of sedimentary rocks deposited on the middle Proterozoic basement of the Grenvillian orogen in NE Laurentia is late Early Cambrian, with immature sandstone (arkose) deposition continuing well into the Middle Cambrian in the eastern Ottawa-Bonnechere aulacogen (Landing et al., 2009, In press; Figure 1). (2) The second purpose of this trip emphasizes the relationship of major eustatic changes to macroscale alternations in oxygenation on the east Laurentian continental slope as exhibited in the Lower Paleozoic of the Taconic allochthon.
