Norma Brewer [email protected] Questions/Comments Email from Alma Garcia, Educate Texas (Leadership Coach) Ms. Brewer - The school year is clearly off to a great start. Now that the “back to school” dust has settled, we are moving forward to another rewarding and successful school year. With this in mind, I am reaching out to you as we begin our work together with your College, Career Readiness School Model (CCRSM) program. Educate Texas, a public/private organization that is working with the Texas Education Agency has appointed me as Leadership Coach for the following schools: Weslaco 21st Century CTE Early College High School Weslaco East High School Weslaco High School I would like for us to have a cluster/joint meeting with the STEM/ECHS (CCRSM) team (school leaders) next month. Would you be available to host us at next month's meeting? If you agree, can you please set up a meeting location that can accommodate 10-12 individuals. I will need about 1.5 -2 hours. Additionally, I will also need a projector (I will bring a slide deck on a flash drive) and copies of some resources and items that I will share with the leaders. As soon as you confirm, I can send out a meeting maker/calendar invite. CCRSM - MEETING DATE: Monday, November 11, 1:30PM-3:30PM LOCATION - TBA I’ll spend some time with a deep introduction of my role in assisting you with your CCRSM. While I haven’t finished an agenda, my thinking was that I cover (subject to change) the following. I suggest that you invite your central office administrators, counseling, data, Higher Ed liaison, and anyone you feel might add value to listening to updates, state requirements, OMBs, and to shake my hand in hope that I can build a trusting and productive relationship with You and your district. Thank you Norma Brewer [email protected] Weslaco Independent School District THE RIGHT CHOICE! Student Support Services Department 400 S. Oklahoma Street /P.O. The chart below show figures that I have gathered for STC costs. The figures in black reflect invoices we have received from STC for fall 2019. These will be invoiced in January, but campuses have been directed to submit a requisition for this total now. The figures in blue represent what was spent last year. I believe we are still lacking fall 2019 invoices for WEHS as their total last year was double what we have been invoiced for this year. My concern is that there is not enough money in the accounts for WEHS and CTE ECHS to cover the projected enrollment. When this budget was discussed over the summer, I mentioned several times that business office staff needed to run the accounts for tuition to see the totals for 2018-2019 and that would be about what we would need this year. I take responsibility for not putting this in writing and failing to gather this information myself prior to this point. Bottom line is that we need the campus budgets for tuition to reflect the amounts below. We never know the exact bill from STC until we receive it.

  • Bobby Jack Wright and Koy Detmer Excelled on the Gridiron
2 x Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame President’s Message Welcome to the 29th Annual Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The RGV Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing recognition to local talent that have brought exposure to the Rio Grande Valley throughout Texas and the nation. Tonight we are privileged to honor nine individuals who have brought recognition to themselves, their family, and the entire Rio Grande Valley in the field of sports. Countless hours have been spent by committees during the selection process to ensure that truly deserving individuals were selected. They now join a very elite group of more than 200 past inductees. The Class of 2016 offers a group of men and women that have excelled in different sports. Manuel “Meme” Cavazos, a true pioneer of valley baseball, thrilled baseball fans in the 1950s. Eddie Marburger, Bobby Jack Wright and Koy Detmer excelled on the gridiron. Maggie Salinas De la Cruz and Rey Ramirez broke records in track and field. Becky Woods led her volleyball teams to more than victories. Cody Colchado, despite his disability, enjoyed success in the sport of powerlifting. Roy Hess has established himself as one of the top sports writers in Texas. Because it is the goal of the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame to honor those that have distinguished themselves in Rio Grande Valley sports, this evening we also proudly recognize the 75th anniversary of the Mission High School 1941 Football Regional Champions. On behalf of the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame, we thank you for your support.

  • Many Stars Come from Texas
MANY STARS COME FROM TEXAS. t h e T erry fo un d atio n MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER he Terry Foundation is nearing its sixteenth anniversary and what began modestly in 1986 is now the largest Tprivate source of scholarships for University of Texas and Texas A&M University. This April, the universities selected 350 outstanding Texas high school seniors as interview finalists for Terry Scholarships. After the interviews were completed, a record 165 new 2002 Terry Scholars were named. We are indebted to the 57 Scholar Alumni who joined the members of our Board of Directors in serving on eleven interview panels to select the new Scholars. These freshmen Scholars will join their fellow upperclass Scholars next fall in College Station and Austin as part of a total anticipated 550 Scholars: the largest group of Terry Scholars ever enrolled at one time. The spring of 2002 also brought graduation to 71 Terry Scholars, many of whom graduated with honors and are moving on to further their education in graduate studies or Howard L. Terry join the workforce. We also mark 2002 by paying tribute to one of the Foundations most dedicated advocates. Coach Darrell K. Royal retired from the Foundation board after fourteen years of outstanding leadership and service. A friend for many years, Darrell was instrumental in the formation of the Terry Foundation and served on the Board of Directors since its inception. We will miss his seasoned wisdom, his keen wit, and his discerning ability to judge character: all traits that contributed to his success as a coach and recruiter and helped him guide the University of Texas football team to three national championships.
