It is inspiring to witness the enduring dedication of our coaches who work so hard to evoke passion, devotion, and fortitude within our children for the love of swimming. They teach our children skills that they can use not only within the swimming community, but skills that our children can take with them for the rest of their lives. It is through this commitment of our coaches, and the strong commitment from our swimmers that they generate, that our own RAYS’ Swim Team is ranked in the top 5% of all the teams in the nation. Being a part of such an elite team is an opportunity that will change our children’s lives! They learn responsibility, discipline, the value of hard work, time management skills, and so much more. I hope that every parent on this team is able to realize what an amazing opportunity is before our children and that they are inspired to unite, for the betterment of our children, to support the team, and help volunteer at our RAYS’ swim functions.     Swimming and Diving DIVISION I MEN’S Highlights Michigan wins fi rst championship since 1995, 12th overall: — When Michigan’s Bruno Ortiz pulled himself out of the water after swimming the anchor leg in the 400- yard freestyle relay at the 2013 Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the singing started. “Hail to the Victors” echoed around the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI March 30, beginning with two Michigan spectator sections on one side of the building and carrying over to the Michigan bench area on the pool deck. The Wolverines did not win the 400 free relay; they fi nished second. But it didn’t matter. Michigan had wrapped up its fi rst national team title since 1995 long before that fi nal relay event. It was the 12th national title for Michigan, and meant it was no longer tied with Ohio State for the overall lead in Division I men’s titles. “This morning, we just kind of let our passion drive us. And that was it,” said Connor Jaeger, who began Michigan’s title drive on the fi nal night of the three-day meet with a victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He also won the 500 free in the meet’s fi rst individual race. Michigan’s victory halted a two-year title run by California, which fi nished second. “We started four years ago working on this,” said Michigan’s fi fth-year coach Mike Bottom. “You do it one day at a time; you do it one student-athlete at a time.

    2009 RULES & REGULATIONS MAJOR LEGISLATION AND RULE CHANGES FOR 2009 1. Swimwear restrictions were put in place for those competing in 12 & under age group defined competition. 2. Meet information for sanctioned or approved competitions must state whether the pool has been certified in accordance with 104.2.2C(4). 3. A Short Course Junior Nationals will be held each winter. 4. Sexual misconduct provisions have been extended to include all members and/or non- members who are participating in any affairs or activities of USA Swimming or its LSCs. 5. The recruiting provision in the Code of Conduct has been expanded. 6. Part 4 has been rewritten to include LSC Hearings and Appeals. 7. Part 6 has been rewritten to include important information previously included only in the LSC Model Bylaws. DOPING CONTROL All athletes should check the status of all medications they plan to take PRIOR to taking them. This includes Over the Counter and Prescription medications. It is the responsibility of the athlete to ensure that no prohibited substance enters his/her system. The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) offers a Drug Reference Line (1-800-233-0393) and a Drug Reference Online (www.usantidoping.org/dro) where athletes, coaches, parents and medical professionals may check to ensure that proper documentation is on file for their medications and that they are consuming medications that are permitted. To comply with the World Anti-Doping Code, FINA, USOC and USADA have all amended their anti-doping rules.     96 DIVISION I Swimming and Diving DIVISION I 2002 Championships Highlights Texas Hooks Up Swimming Title: The Texas Longhorns pulled out their third consecutive championship in dramatic fashion, coming back to take the lead in the second-to-last event of the meet and holding on for the victory. The Longhorns finished with 512 points, 11 more than the Stanford Cardinal. That margin of victory is the closest since the advent of the 16-place scoring system in 1985. Divers made the difference for the Longhorns. Troy Dumais was named diver of the meet for the third straight time after sweeping the spring- board events and taking fifth on platform. With his win in the three- meter event, he became the first diver in NCAA history to win an event all four years. Photo by Erik S.
