Equestrian Australia (EA) is the governing body for equestrian sport and competition in Australia. The ABOUT organisation was established in 1951 and at this time was formally recognised by the international governing body, the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI), for the EQUESTRIAN purpose of Olympic selection to the 1956 Olympic Games. Australia has enjoyed rich success on the international sporting stage since its first appearance at the Olympics, AUSTRALIA earning itself a formidable reputation for producing world class equestrian competitors. While EA has maintained its focus on high performance outcomes, in recent years it has embarked on new projects and implemented numerous strategies that aim to grow other sectors of the sport. NSW Shines in Paralympic Medal Tally
NSW shines in Paralympic medal tally 30 September 2008 Premier Nathan Rees today congratulated New South Wales’ Paralympic athletes who returned from Beijing with an impressive 48 medals. The Premier said we should all be proud of the 37 athletes from NSW who contributed to Australia’s final tally of 79 medals. “Not only are they world class athletes but they are outstanding role models for us all,” Mr Rees said. “NSW athletes returned with 16 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze medals,” he said. The Paralympic team featured two of New South Wales’ Don’t DIS my ABILITY ambassadors – Athletics gold medallist Kurt Fearnley from Carcoar and Beacon Hill medal- winning cyclist Lindy Hou. “As ambassadors, Kurt Fearnley and Lindy Hou spread the message that people with a disability can lead everyday lives,” Mr Rees said. “They – like their team mates returning from Beijing – are an inspiration to others. “Every person who competed in the Paralympics returns to Australia a winner and an ambassador for people with a disability. “Their hard work, sacrifice and determination have been rewarded as they compete with the best athletes in the world.” Minister for Disability Services Paul Lynch said the Paralympians were an inspiration to the State’s 1.3 million people living with a disability. “People with a disability can do anything – the efforts of our Paralympians are proof of that,” Mr Lynch said. Minister for Sport and Recreation Kevin Greene said the New South Wales Institute of Sport had played a role in supporting the 36 athletes. “The Institute has been part of the Paralympic journey, providing scholarships and programs to give our athletes the support they need to perform to their capacity on the world stage,” Mr Greene said.

Extract from Hansard [COUNCIL — Tuesday, 6 August 2013] p2572b-2573a Hon Ken Travers WHEELCHAIR SPORTS WA ASSOCIATION Statement HON KEN TRAVERS (North Metropolitan) [9.51 pm]: Earlier tonight a number of members made reference to the competition on the weekend between Liberal and Labor members at the Wheelchair Sports WA Association. It is worth formally acknowledging in the house that competition, which Wheelchair Sports has been keen to see occur. Wheelchair Sports was very happy with the way the competition turned out on the day. It did not hurt that the National Disability Insurance Scheme was agreed to at the same time. Western Australia has some of the premier wheelchair basketball players. The Perth Wheelcats team is absolutely the best sporting franchise in Western Australia. I long ago gave up on Australian Football League code–based teams and a number of other sporting groups. I still have a great soft spot for West Coast Fever, but our Perth Wheelcats team won five premierships in a row. The team has not won for the past couple of years partly because a number of players have been playing overseas or have injuries as a result of competing in the Olympic Games. However, after the excellent display of wheelchair basketball put on by members of this house and the other place, we were followed by a starting five that included at least three players who have been rated at various times the world’s best wheelchair basketballers. All five of the starting five who replaced us on the court have played for their national team.

Round 4 Program 6th – 8th August Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness CNR CODRINGTON ST & DARLINGTON AVE, DARLINGTON, NSW Welcome Message Welcome to the fourth round of the 2010 Women’s National League Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL) being held in Sydney this weekend. In this the eleventh WNWBL season, Wheelchair Sports Australia and Basketball Australia have partnered up to conduct the league. This year sees four teams battling it out over four preliminary rounds of competition followed by a Finals Series to be held in Perth in September. This season looks to be a very competitive one with many past and future Australian representatives working hard to gain a spot in the National Team (Gliders) in the lead up to the 2010 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in July. It is also great to see so many new players joining the league and we are sure that their experience will be valuable as well as fun. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Wheelchair Sports Associations for their ongoing supports of the WNWBL. Thank you also to the players, coaches, officials, and volunteers who continue to commit to this league and a big welcome to those players and team staff joining us for the first time this season. The League Advisory Committee continues to work hard behind the scenes to ensure the success of the WNWBL and we would like to thank them for all of their efforts.
