Welcome Message

Welcome to the fourth round of the 2010 Women’s National League Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL) being held in this weekend. In this the eleventh WNWBL season, Wheelchair Sports Australia and Basketball Australia have partnered up to conduct the league. This year sees four teams battling it out over four preliminary rounds of competition followed by a Finals Series to be held in Perth in September.

This season looks to be a very competitive one with many past and future Australian representatives working hard to gain a spot in the National Team (Gliders) in the lead up to the 2010 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in July. It is also great to see so many new players joining the league and we are sure that their experience will be valuable as well as fun.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our Wheelchair Sports Associations for their ongoing supports of the WNWBL. Thank you also to the players, coaches, officials, and volunteers who continue to commit to this league and a big welcome to those players and team staff joining us for the first time this season.

The League Advisory Committee continues to work hard behind the scenes to ensure the success of the WNWBL and we would like to thank them for all of their efforts.

Finally, best wishes to all players, teams, staff and officials this weekend and for the season ahead.

I have been a member of the Aussie Gliders for 9 years which includes 2 and 2 worlds Championships. Some of my highlights include winning the Silver Medal in Athens 2004 at my first Paralympic games, winning Bronze Medal at 2008 the Paralympic Games and being named in the World All Star 5 at the World Championships in Amsterdam 2006. I also play in the Men's National League for the Wenty WheelKings and have been a Member of the team since 2000. When I get some spare time I love to cook Indian food and watch action packed movies with my brothers.

Caitlin was a part of the winning Hills Hornets who won the WNWBL title in 2007 and 2008. Caitlin has just started as a Veterinary Science student at Sydney University this year and she is on a Sports scholarship from Sydney University Sports and Fitness.

Clare Burzynski (Western Stars) Clare Burzynski is not only one of the glamour girls of Wheelchair Basketball, she is also one heck of a good basketball player. Clare is a vital member of not only the Western Stars, but also the all conquering Perth Wheelcats. She is all business then she hits the court and is self diagnosed with White Line Fever. Off the court Clare is studying a Bachelor of Legal Studies, majoring in Criminology and is a sucker for horror movies...... An interesting combination.
