Job Description The BIG EAST Conference is accepting applications for the position of Communications Assistant, which serves in a support capacity to the Sports Media Relations Department. The position reports to the Associate Commissioner for Sports Media Relations, Assistant Commissioner of Women’s Sports Media Relations and the Assistant Director of Olympic Sports Media Relations and Marketing Communications and assists on a daily basis with the internal and external communications efforts for the conference’s sponsored sports. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Serve as the primary liaison with select Olympic sport programs, which includes producing and disseminating relevant information; • Serve as the secondary contact for women’s basketball; • Provide high level of service and regular interaction with member institutions’ administrators and coaching staffs, as well as local and national media; • Assist with all aspects of media relations for 22 BIG EAST sports and championships • Design publications for Olympic sports using desktop publishing; • Distribute news material to local, regional and national media, as well as track and monitor media placements; • Maintain website content for selected sports; • Maintain historical and statistical files; • Assist the sports media relations staff with service bureau duties for men's and women's basketball; and • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, or relevant field. • Excellent journalistic writing ability, with specific knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines. • Strong organizational skills. • Experience with Microsoft Office, Stat Crew, and desktop publishing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop). • Previous work or volunteer experience in athletics communications, preferably in higher education environment; and/or former student-athlete experience at a member institution. • Demonstrated ability work both independently and collaboratively with diverse constituents, including conference staff and personnel at member institutions. • Capacity to efficiently multi-task and prioritize. • Familiarity with NCAA compliance rules and regulations.
