VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA Office of the National Chaplain FOUAD KHALIL AIDE -- Funeral service for Major Fouad Khalil Aide, United States Army (Retired), 78, will be Friday, November 13, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with Larry Amerson, Ken Rollins, and Lt. Col. Don Hull officiating, with full military honors. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Major Aide died Friday, November 6, 2009, in Jacksonville Alabama. The cause of death was a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Aide, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Barbara Sifuentes, of Carrollton, Texas, and Linda D'Anzi, of Brighton, England; two sons, Lewis Aide, of Columbia, Maryland, and Daniel Aide, of Springfield, Virginia, and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be military. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Rollins, Matt Pepe, Lt. Col. Don Hull, Jim Hibbitts, Jim Allen, Dan Aide, Lewis Aide, VVA Chapter 502, and The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. Fouad was commissioned from the University of Texas ROTC Program in 1953. He served as a Military Police Officer for his 20 years in the Army. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam, with one year as an Infantry Officer. He was recalled to active duty for service in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was attached to the FBI on their Terrorism Task Force because of his expertise in the various Arabic dialects and cultures. He was fluent in Arabic, Spanish and Vietnamese and had a good working knowledge of Italian, Portuguese and French. -

Rehearsing the “Warrior Ethos” “Theatre Immersion” and the Simulation of Theatres of War Scott Magelssen As America’s embedment in the Middle East has become increasingly entrenched, complicated, and violent, the Armed Forces are looking to theatre and performance for new counterinsur- gency strategies to keep apace with the shifting specificities of the present war.1 To pre-expose deployment-bound troops to combatants’ unconventional tactics, and to the sharp-eyed gaze of the local and international media, the Army has constructed vast simulations of wartime Iraq and Afghanistan. Termed “Theatre Immersions,”2 these sites feature entire villages—living, breath- ing environments complete with residential, government, retail, and worship districts—bustling 1. It should be said that, whereas the military uses “strategies” to denote overall plans to win a war, and “tactics” to denote the practices used in the field to implement these strategies (Mockaitis 2007b), I use these terms in the sense articulated by Michel de Certeau in The Practice of Everyday Life (1984). To paraphrase de Certeau, strategies are the methods used by those in power to rein in and police the space they control, and tactics are used by those to whom the space does not belong, but who occupy it and maneuver through its landscape, resisting or playing by its rules. In this case, the US and Coalition forces, in cooperation with the interim and permanent govern- ments, ostensibly own and control the space of Iraq, and operate strategically to maintain this control. 2. “Theater immersion rapidly builds combat-ready formations led by competent, confident leaders who see first, understand first, and act first; battleproofed soldiers inculcated with the warrior ethos man the formations. -

SHEPPARD AI R FORCE BASE UNI T MANPOWER DOCUMENT ( UMD) USER' S GUI DE Updat ed Apr 2018 UNIT MANPOWER DOCUMENT (UMD) This guide was developed to provide you a better understanding and knowledge of interpreting the UMD. If you have any questions concerning the information in this guide, or would like to receive hands-on training on how to read the UMD, please contact the Manpower Office at 676-4935. UMD Definition. The UMD is a computer product detailing a unit’s organization and manpower composition. Its purpose is to provide commanders and managers a consolidated document detailing the organization structure; the number, skills, grade, security requirements of manpower authorizations; the position number for each authorization and other pertinent data needed for management of manpower resources. Military and civilian personnel offices also use this database to develop computer products for personnel management. This makes the manpower position number common to both systems and facilitates cross-referencing information from these products. The UMD serves as a baseline on all management actions dealing with manpower. Any change to the UMD requires a formal request, signed by the appropriate commander (ref atch 1). The following paragraphs explain each data code on the UMD and provide applicable information on each. The item number corresponds with the numbers on the sample UMD at attachment 2. 1. MAC (Major Command Code): Identifies to which command the UMD applies. Some codes are: 1C - Air Combat Command (ACC), 34 - Air National Guard (ANG), 06 - Air Force Audit Agency (AFAA), 0J - Air Education and Training Command (AETC), 1S – Space Command (SPACECOM), and 0D – United States Air Force in Europe (USAFE). -
