THE VAULT The Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) Museum Collection recently acquired a fantastic dinnerware set comprised of 64 pieces of beautifully decorated Mason’s ironstone. These dishes made their way down through the Ross family, from Donald Ross to daughter Christine, who passed them on to her daughter Minnie. Minnie gifted them to her good friend Mary Young, who presented the set to her daughter Mary Ferguson as a wedding present in 1931. They remained with the family until their recent donation to The Manitoba Museum. It is amazing that so many of the pieces have survived this long, especially considering the distances travelled, not to mention the methods of transportation (York boat and canoe!). This collection was donated by the sons of Mary S. Ferguson, who wished the collection be returned to Manitoba. A selection of the dishes donated to the HBC Museum Collection (HBC 014-26).
