Thomas Artistic Director & Conductor Katie Skovholt Executive Director December 14 & 21, 2019 Mandy Goldberg Operations & Administrative Associate Dwight Beckmeyer A message from conductor Karen P. Thomas Accompanist Kelly Foster Griffin Vocal Coach Jenn Newland The winter solstice is a significant time of year in many cultures, and it has been marked for centuries by festivals and Stage Manager rituals, often focusing on the symbolic death and rebirth of the sun. Even Neolithic cultures likely attached special meaning to the solstice, as can be seen in the layouts of late Neolithic and Bronze Age archaeological sites, such as Board of Directors Stonehenge in England where the primary axis points to the winter solstice sunset. Wes Kim President Seattle Pro Musica Soloists Because winter solstice is the shortest day of the year, it was seen as the reversal of the sun’s ebbing presence in the Anne Clamoungou SOPRANO I ALTO I TENOR I sky. • Lyrics to the Top 100 Western Songs
Lyrics to the Top 100 Western Songs As chosen by members of the Western Writers Association and sung by various artists Skip Skipson www.western100.com [email protected] Foreword Several years ago, the Western Writers of America surveyed its membership to choose the Top 100 Western Songs. The list was presented at the WWA’s Annual Convention in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was reprinted on the website of American Cowboy magazine, where I happened to see it in July, 2014. The list looked interesting, so I spent the Fourth of July weekend searching for the songs, their lyrics, and something about their background. By Monday evening I had made a pretty good start at tracking this information down, and I had become hooked on the music and its fascinating history. I created a comprehensive website, with links to YouTube versions of all the songs, to the lyrics as sung in the YouTubes, and to information on the backgrounds of the songs. You can see it at www.western100.com This document is a reprint of the lyrics as they appear on the website, presented alpha‐ betically by title. It also includes a list of the songs by their original rank. The lyrics on the website have been meticulously transcribed from the YouTube versions referenced there. Those presented here are a close match to those on the website, but do not include every update and correction made there. Nevertheless, they are very close to the lyrics as sung in one important recording of the song. Please note that there can be many variations in the lyrics of a song, due to varying inter‐ pretations by historians, arrangers, and artists.

Mike D’s Top 5 Can’t Miss Shows of March 1. Friday, March 4: DMX; $36 advance / $40 day of; All ages; Lupo’s, 79 Washington St, Providence. What should one expect going to see DMX, ’90s rap icon, in 2016? If I were to make a pie chart, I would put it at a 5% chance of brilliance, 50% chance of medocrity, 20% of him not showing up, 25% of a figurative car crash. I would be happy with either brilliance or car crash. Earlier this month we came close to losing DMX when he was found unconscious after an apparent overdose. While you would imagine that would slow down most performers, DMX apparently has already been back on the road. Hopefully he took it as a moment to become scared straight and stays with us for a long time. Regardless of what happens, buzz is crazy for this and there should be a lot of heads looking to find out what DMX is gonna give you. 2. Thursday, March 17: Four Year Strong, Light Years, Can’t Swim, Trophy Wives, Sayings; $17 advance / $20 day of; All ages; The Met, 1005 Main St, Pawtucket. What’s better on Saint Patrick’s Day than a drunken sing-along? And if you can’t find the Pogues or a band covering them, why not make it a pop punk sing along? No one does melodic pop punk / hardcore in New England better than Worcester’s Four Year Strong. The band has been at it for 15 years and is on the road supporting the 2015 released / Kurt Ballou (Converge) produced self-titled album.

  • Praise for Stuck
Praise for Stuck “In thirty years of pastoral ministry, I can’t think of a single issue that has come up more in conversations with hurt- ing people than the issue of forgiveness. In nearly every case, these people know they need to forgive. That part is clear. What is unclear is how. That’s what sets this book apart from every other work I’ve read on the subject. This book is all about how—and I love that. Mark is just the man to help us navigate this. He lives what he writes, and I love that too. I predict you’ll end up buying copies to give away.” Dr. Daniel Hahn Lead Pastor, Encounter at Bible Fellowship Church Ventura, CA “Mark’s story is one based not on theory, but on his real-life story, and aren’t those always the best? His story reveals the truth that the longer you hold a grudge, the longer the grudge has hold of you. Mark’s story and insights will help you release the grip of the grudge and move forward in freedom.” Jeff Henderson Lead Pastor, Gwinnett Church (North Point Ministries) Metro Atlanta, GA “Mark has started a conversation that the Church has des- perately needed to have for a long time. Forgiveness isn’t quick and easy when you’ve been deeply hurt. But it’s so necessary. Mark helps us get unstuck when we don’t know how to actually move closer to Jesus in the process. Do yourself a favor and read this book.” Ben Reed Small Groups Pastor, Saddleback Church, Lake Forest Campus Lake Forest, CA Author of Starting Small: The Ultimate Small Group Blueprint “Pastor Riggins has written a highly informative book on how to forgive from the Christian perspective.

She always felt that singing was her deepest form of self- expression. But her voice change resulting from spasmodic dysphonia was so radical that she was devastated. I thought it okay, but still felt problematic and limiting. was just a matter of breathing incorrectly.
