This & That INTERLEAGUE DROUGHT HALTED--Last night’s cliffhanger snapped a 7-game losing streak to the National League dating back to a 3-game sweep by the Dodgers in L.A. just prior to the break and then four straight to the cross-state Redbirds earlier this month...KC started the year going 5-2 against the N.L. West, taking three of four from the Giants, including a 2-game sweep in June at AT&T Park and also winning two of three in San Diego...all told, the Royals are 6-9 this year and need to win at least three of the remaining five (three also with Arizona to close the season) to avoid the first losing season vs. the N.L. since going 9-11 in 2013...from 2014-16, Kansas City’s 38-22 mark against the N.L. was tied with Baltimore and Toronto for the best in the Majors in that span. NEXT STOP, CLEVELAND--After tomorrow’s finale with the Rox, Kansas City will resume work against the Central Division, with a weekend stop at Progressive Field...the last three American League champions have seven games remaining against each other, all ticketed for the shores of Lake Erie...Sunday’s win over the Tribe evened the season work at 6-6, while KC holds a 2-1 advantage in Cleveland...this weekend will also be the Players Weekend, where equipment and jerseys will be far from ordinary, featuring customized bats and shoes, while many players will have nicknames on their backs. GAME CLOCK WINDING DOWN--KC enters tonight with 38 games left on the 2017 regular season docket and back to two games over .500 at 63-61...the Royals are now six games behind Cleveland in the A.L. TOP DEFENDERS MEET--The top two defensive teams in the Majors were each guilty of an infield miscue last night, with Kansas City continuing to top the charts with a Major League low 56 errors on the year and Colorado a close second with 57...Kansas City is in the midst of a rugged 14-game stretch in it has committed 13 errors after being guilty of only 43 in the first 110 games of the season...the Royals have committed four fewer errors than any other American League squad, with Cleveland running second with 60...sound defense has been paramount to the club’s success as the Royals have gone 42-35 in games without an error...the Royals are on a pace to break the franchise record for fewest errors in a season, with the 162-game club mark of 85 set in 2013...the 1981 and 1994 squads had lower error totals of 72 and 80, respectively, but each were recorded in strike-shortened seasons...at the current pace, KC would commit just 73 errors this year.
