It also ushers in a new beginning for co-producers Joe & Mindy Croft and Travis Green. Our "new" producers are not actually new at all considering all three, along with several other dedicated volunteers, have been supporting this series for many previous years selling program books, doing sound, or giving people rides to and from the parking.

Sam Hitchcock, long time producer of RTY Summer Showcase, officially retired with the conclusion of the 2017 season and will be enjoying the entertainment from the audience side going forward. We would like to thank Sam for his 20 years serving our community and producing these shows. Without Sam, this great series would not be what it is today. So many wonderful programs, entertainers, and memories. Sam, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for all you do for your community and thank you for the confidence you've shown and RTY has shown in us to continue the tradition of Summer Showcase. We look forward to another great season, and of course, no rain on concert nights at Tuscora Park.

We are excited to carry on the great tradition that has been established over the past twenty years of providing great free entertainment to our wonderful community, friends, and neighbors and we hope you are excited for the season as well. This year will feature twenty-one programs including the Dominic Greco afternoon performance on July Fourth which is also the kick-offconcert to the First Town Days Festival. In addition to our regular Sunday evening performances there will also be two Saturday programs, two Monday programs, and a special Thursday June 28th program featuring the 122nd Army Band - National Guard Band so be sure to mark down these dates on your calendar. There will be many of our favorites returning, a number of new programs for your listening pleasure and possibly even a few fun surprises in store. We would like for you to encourage local friends and family and also those in other communities throughout the region to come join us and to be our guests. Invite them to come enjoy what you have already discovered in New Philadelphia and this local treasure known as Tuscora Park. What better way to spend a Summer evening than taking a ride on the Carousel, relaxing on the boardwalk, enjoying an ice cream cone, and listening to some great music at Summer Showcase. I did not grow up in New Philadelphia but am always quick (and proud) to share what a great place this is with those visiting and to have called it home for the past twelve years.

Last but not least, Mindy, Travis, and I would like to thank the City of New Philadelphia, RTY, Pepsi, New Philadelphia Rotary, and all of the other sponsors, advertisers, and patrons listed throughout this Program Book. Thanks to the many Organization, Businesses, and Individuals who through their generous support make these shows possible. Won't you fill up the seats and the hillside to thank them. Also thank you for coming and supporting the shows through your donations and purchasing this program book. We hope you will come sit a while and Let Us Entertain You....

Sincerely,

Joe

5 The New Philadelphia Rotary Club

Welcome to Tuscora Park

The leadership and hard work of members of the New Philadelphia Rotary Club has helped to make Tuscora Park one of the finest community parks in Ohio.

The club's connection to the Park goes back three quarters of a century. Over the years, Rotary Club members have given of their time, money and expertise. Always, it was a labor of love. The time and effort expended goes beyond the measure of dollars and cents.

Every Monday evening during May, Rotarians will be found in work clothes with shovels and paint brushes in hand, preparing the rides, golf course and Amphitheater for the season's grand opening. New Philadelphia Rotarians preparing forthe season grand opening.

In 1995, the New Philadelphia Rotary Club saw a need for a major overhaul of the Amphitheater. Club members pitched in to make temporary repairs while a long-term solution was found.

In 1998, grants from the Timken Foundation of Canton and the Rosenberry Foundation of New Philadelphia funded the complete renovation of the Amphitheater.

Since then, the Summer Showcase of music and entertainment has presented family entertainment to the stage of the Tuscora Park Amphitheater. Thanks to the support of concertgroups and generous donors, concerts in the park will continue for many years to come. It is with tremendous pride that the members of New Philadelphia Bob Baker does a beautiful job of Rotary Club welcome you to Tuscora Park. caring for his adopted flower beds throughout the summer.

Dominic Greco Band Memorial Day Concert

The Italian Band of 1917 was much like it is today. Some of the finest and most dedicated musicians from our area played outdoor concerts to the delight of their audiences. The first director was the esteemed Dominic Greco, a music teacher who emigrated from Italy to our area and realized the need for a full concert band of diverse musicians. Their talent and reputation grew until one day, as legend has it, at the state fair where they were performing, members of the Sousa Band came to hear them play. In the mid-century, the Italian Band became known as the Dover Concert Band. Then as a tribute to its founder, the band members changed the name to the Dominic Greco Band. Long time director Frederick Delphia retired after last season. This evening's concert is directed by one of Delphia's former students, Brian Botdorf, who was a band director for 35 years. It is the mission of the Dominic Greco Band to keep alive the grand tradition of the summer community concert band. The Tuscarawas Valley will continue to treasure the music created by the Dominic Greco Band through outdoor performances at Tuscora Park. The rich heritage of this band is a remarkable tribute to the musicians and audiences alike. Visit the band's website at dominicgrecoband.org or find us on FaceBook.

Summer Showcase has always been proud to present a variety of musical events from local as well as out-of-town entertainers. We are also proud to have talented people in our own community to showcase for you here at the Tuscora Park Amphitheater. And some of our most talented local people are music students of our area schools. Tonight, we are bringing you two such musically-talented groups of young people from the Dover City Schools. I am of course talking about the fabulous Dover High School Jazz Band and the Steel Drum Band under the direction of Mr. Chris Redd.

··.·"-·".... . _T· - ..,,;. ·" 7:00 P.M. The Dominic Greco Band

The Dominic Greco band continues its tradition of concerts in the park and celebrates the beginning of summer! The late Dominic Greco moved to Dover, Ohio from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1917 and almost immediately after coming to Dover, formed the "Italian Band" to play for public functions in the community. In 1919, following World War I, his musical organization was expanded into the "Dover Concert Band." Dominic Greco conducted the band for nearly forty years. When he started, there were no slide trombones or saxophone players permitted in the band. Greco actively recruited what he felt was needed and the musical organization grew in both quality and prestige. Harper Froman succeeded Greco as director and after Froman, Robert Lyon became director of the band. In 1973, the members voted to change the name from Dover Concert Band to the Dominic Greco Band to pay tribute to their founder. Frederick Delphia conducted the band from 1983 to 1990. The band took a short intermission for about eleven years before returning in 2001 and has performed every summer since under Mr. Delphia's direction until his retirement following the 2017 season. This year's Dominic Greco concerts are conducted by multiple directors and also longtime members of the Dominic Greco Band including Brian Botdorf, April Linard, and Cheryl Graham. Continuing our tradition of concerts in the park, tonight we focus on Summer! Our program this evening features some classic concert band repertoire that is not only fun to listen to but fun to perform! Conducted by April Linard and featuring pieces like Summer Dances, Broadway Marches, Tuscora Celebration and a little jazz, this concert is sure to entertain! For more information on the Dominic Greco Band, visit their website at www.dominicgrecoband.org or Find them and Like them on Facebook.

28 Randy Velez Many people have called Randy the "Rich Little of Music" due to his vocal range of over 5 octaves and the eclectic variety he performs for his audiences. As a singing vocal impressionist he is known for traversing genres and generations of top 40 hits! There's usually someone in the audience that believes Randy is lip syncing or changing his voice through electronics; however, neither auto tuners nor harmonizers are ever used. Shows are kept lively and engaging with simple hat and prop changes throughout his performances. With approximately 400 in his memorized repertoire even if you've seen him a dozen times, you're bound to hear something new!

Randy may begin a performance as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, or any of the 3 generations of Hank Williams; and five minutes later become the voice of Louie Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, John Cougar Mellencamp, Bon Jovi, John Fogerty, Harry Belefonte, Chubby Checker, Roy Orbison, Elvis, or the Big Bopper... and the list goes on!

"Ever since I was a little boy I mimicked the voices of my favorite cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny. During my teens I paid close attention to how people spoke and I loved to impersonate even my own parents. Spending much of my time playing bass and singing lead, backup, and harmonies in bands during the 80s was a valuable experience. As someone who paid close attention to pitch, tone, and key; I wanted to cover songs as close to the original versions as possible. When I became a solo artist, I combined my childhood talents of mimicking voices with my love of music. Melodies that were soundtracks to our lives playing from turntables, 8 tracks, transistor radios, cassettes, music video, and CDs now ring out from my own mic. The giftof music given to me, I'm able to give to others. I love bringing back memories and helping make new ones by replicating musical voices from the past and present."

Randy is an absolute Entertainer and one of our area's favorites so sit back and enjoy where he takes us

The Family Band & Special Guests

You know what they say, when one door closes another one opens. When Sam Hitchcock retired as Producer of The RTY Summer Showcase series at the end of 2017, one of his goals in addition to seeing Park Place Teen Center thrive, was to get back to his roots of playing music. That is exactly what we're going to be treated with this evening. Sam and his son Jimmy and daughter Laura will be taking the stage of Summer Showcase to provide us with a lot of fun and entertainment. Sam began playing music as a teenager in his high school band playing Baritone. He also took up the bass guitar in 1965. Upon enrolling at Kent State in New Philadelphia, Sam decided to take a course in music theory which is where he learned the keyboard. Sam has dabbled with several instruments over the years but enjoys his keys the most. His resulting Love Of Music led him to team with Kelly Goodrich for several years playing the Holiday Inn circuit and also with local musician and friend Carl Draher in the band Gemini. Jimmy Hitchcock like his father is very musically talented. He began playing drums when he was 7 years old and first performed on stage with his dad when he was 14. Jimmy is now a police captain with the Dover Police Department and well-known and respected in his community. Laura Schupbach Barkett, Sam's daughter, holds a degree in Music Education from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. She is the current director of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Children's Chorus and has been a member of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra Chorus in the past. Laura is an outstanding vocalist and was once invited on stage to sing with Josh Graban while attending his concert in Cleveland with her mother. We hope you enjoy this evening with the Family Band and might even have a couple of surprise guests for you throughout the show. You will just need to come find out for yourself. This will be a show that any fan of Summer Showcase should not want to miss.

48 LaFlavour began humbly in Massillon, Ohio in 1967. Tw in brothers Pete and Steve Nervo (guitar and drums) joined with schoolmates Craig DeBock (guitar and sax) and Gino Milchak (bass guitar) to form the core of what would actually become several bands. Instead of following the path set by the British Invasion, the boys began playing soul tunes and early Motown, eventually getting gigs at local dances and sockhops. This early version of the band first called themselves "The Noblemen", then "The Blues Soul".

At the dawn of the New Millennium, La Flavour suddenly found themselves in demand to deliver concert performances, particularly during the summer months. Thanks to energetic local concert promoters, "the boys" began filling up their summer months with appearances at community concert series events such as Summer Showcase, headlining to thousands of fans of all ages who weren't necessarily "regulars" at their club dates.

The Summer Concert Series also gave longtime LaFlavour fans the opportunity to see all four "original" members onstage performing together. While Craig, Pete, and Gino have remained with the band for more than 30 years, original drummer/vocalist Steve Nervo retired in 1996 for health reasons. However, when he's able, Steve makes guest appearances with the band during the Summer Concert Series, most notably performing his remarkable lead vocals on the hit "Mandolay." Along with LaFlavour veterans John Casey (guitar/vocals/keyboards) and Vince Scarpitti (drums/vocals), Craig, Pete, Gino, and Steve are still bringing to audiences the highest quality live entertainment available anywhere, filled with the same incredible music, fun, and antics they've become famous for during a remarkable career spanning nearly 40 years! Please welcome tonight the return of LaFlavour.

The Jericho Big Band

Forty-four years ago in 197 4, a group of Dover High School band students got together over the summer to play swing music. Suddenly it was clear that the band was better than just a mere practice band. And with that, the Jericho Big Band was created. For 12 years the Jericho Big Band entertained audiences throughout Dover and New Philadelphia. As time passed and players moved out of the area, the band went dormant.

In 2016, the Jericho Big Band's founding members, Brian Botdorf and Corey Swinderman, have reunited Jericho to return to the stage, entertaining audiences with the sounds of the big band era past and present.

Performing the actual arrangements played by such greats as Michael Buble, , Harry Conick Jr., Barry Manilow, Gloria Estefan, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, The Spinners, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, and many more, the Jericho Big Band and its 20 musicians and vocalists bring alive the big band sounds you have known and still love. We invite you to sit back and enjoy the show!

Visit the band's website at jerichobigband.com or catch us on Face Book

About the Tuscarawas Philharmonic...

A full symphony orchestra under the direction of Eric Benjamin, the Tuscarawas Philharmonic presents a varied concert series each season, from the immortal classics to jazz to country, along with a free pops and patriotic concert at Tuscora Park's beautiful amphitheatre each Labor Day weekend.

In addition to the orchestra, the organization also includes the Children's Chorus, now a nearly year-round ensemble; and the Adult Chorus, which performs twice each season. The Philharmonic also hosts an annual High School Honors Band and a Performing Arts Camp for young musicians

An asset of incalculable value to the area, the Philharmonic offers cultural, educational, and entertainment opportunities. It serves to not only make our community a more attractive area in which to live and do business, but also to enable musicians of all ages to use and develop their instrumental and vocal talents.

The Tuscarawas Philharmonic is the resident companyofthe Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center. More information is available at www.TuscarawasPhilharmonic.org.

Kavan is a nationally recognized Elvis Tribute Artist (ETA) and will take you through the '50s rockabilly years, the '60s movie years/' 68 Comeback Special and the '70s Vegas years. Multiple outfit changes using exact replicas of Elvis' original outfits contribute to his authentic concert tribute.

Kavan has been a fan of Elvis Presley for his entire life and has been performing on stage since the age of three. He was chosen among all the current American ETAs for a BBC television Elvis special that was filmed in London, England. Kavan won the honor of "The World's #1 Rock & Roll Elvis." Most recently Kavan was named grand champion of the 2013 Midwest Tribute to the King competition and was a finalist in the 2011 and 2012 World Championships held in Memphis.

Kavan has performed previously to standing-room-only crowds at the First Town Days Festival and is always a favorite at Summer Showcase. Follow him back to Tuscora Park for a show you do not want to miss as he delivers the Elvis look, moves, charm, and of course, the voice of Elvis.
