The NSW Office of Water, in conjunction with State Water Corporation, Local Government and water utilities, maintains an extensive blue-green algae and water quality monitoring network across NSW.
The map of 2008–09 algal alert levels shows that the continuing drought across most of the State provided ideal conditions for algal growth.
