Biddanda Received: 28 April 2015 / Accepted: 31 December 2015 / Published online: 12 January 2016 Ó Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2016 Abstract Exchange of water between groundwater and surface water could alter water quality of the surface waters and thereby impact its ecosystem. Discharges of anoxic groundwater, with high concentrations of sulfate and chloride and low concentrations of nitrate and oxygen, from three sinkhole vents (El Cajon, Middle Island and Isolated) in Lake Huron have been recently documented. In this investigation, we collected and ana- lyzed a suite of water samples from these three sinkhole vents and lake water samples from Lake Huron for Ra, radon-222, stable isotopes of oxygen and hydrogen, and other ancillary parameters. These measurements are among the first of their kind in this unique envi- ronment. The activities of Ra are found to be one to two orders of magnitude higher than that of the lake water. Isotopic signatures of some of the bottom lake water samples indicate evidences for micro-seeps at distances farther from these three vents. A plot of dD versus d18O indicates that there are deviations from the Global Meteoric Line that can be attributed to mixing of different water masses and/or due to some subsurface chemical reactions.

BRITISH COLUMBIA \ V6J ZW7 WESTERN COPPER (GOLD) PROPERTY SKEENA MINING DIVISION for Alcove Gold Corporation by ALLAN P. FAWLEY Ph. D. Field Exploration August 25, 1987 Report Written September, 1987 Western Copper Mine Skeena Mining Division, British Columbia Introduction The Western Copper nine was a periodic shipper of high-grade hand sorted gold-copper ore to smelters at Ladysmith, Tacoma and Anyox during the period 1906 - 1929. The old mine is about 100 miles south of Terrace and is near the shipping route from Vancouver to Prince Rupert. The property was examined on August 25, 1987 in company with Messrs. J.M. MeIdrum, R. Maret, and V.M.J. Reimer. The weather was perfect and we landed on the Western property after a helicopter flight from Terrace © 10:45 am; however as most of the showings are on a nearly vertical cliff, examinations were very difficult and should be examined in far greater detail after a tent camp has been established on the property. Numerous reports by consultants and by the B.C. government are available and several are quoted in this report. They include reports by R.C. Campbell-Johnston, Mining and Metallurgical Engineer, (1909); R.C. Pryor, M.E., (1929); Ward B. Smith, E.M., (1927); Harvey Hanna, E.M., (1927); J.P. TORRES MARTI´NEZ3 Abstract: The Cuban archipelago hosts at least thirteen endemic species of the genus Eleutherodactylus that live in association with rocks, caves, or limestone landscapes. However, the reproductive biology of Cuban rock-cave dwelling frogs has received little attention. In this contribution, we offer the first report of oviposition, clutch size, nest site locations, and hatching in Eleutherodactylus (Syrrophus) zeus. Clutches of this species in different development stages were sighted in rock depressions and crevices inside of the Gran Caverna de Santo Toma´s, located in Sierra de Quemados, Vin˜ales, Pinar del Rı´o province. Clutch sizes ranged from 48 to 74 eggs, and hatching success was 98% for one of them. Moreover, we document the first report of nest attendance by a species of the subgenus Syrrophus, the strategy of which may be biparental, with either male or female parental care. Our findings are important not only in understanding general life-history strategies, but also in understanding particular strategies for an endemic species whose habitat specialization is associated with an at-risk system. It investigates the reception processes manifested in the selection and translation of Mansfield’s writings into German, the attention given to them by publishers, reviewers, and academics, the reactions of her German readership, the inclusion of her works in literary histories and curricula of grammar schools and universities in Germany.

  • "Prelude" As a Turning Point in the Fiction of Katherine Mansfield
A Synthesis of Theme and Style: "Prelude" as a Turning Point in the Fiction of Katherine Mansfield Peggy Orenstein Honors Thesis April 21, 1983 Katherine Mansfield's contribution to modern British fiction has been virtually ignored in recent years; the two major periods of critical attention to her work were in the 1920's (right after her death) and the early 1950's. Critics of both groups have given extensive consideration to Mansfield's experimentation--independent of Virginia Woolf and James Joyce--with interior monologue, shifting narrative perspective and moments of revelation However, analyses of Mansfield have predominantly ignored her concerns as a woman writer. Mansfield examines women's roles and women's sexuality in nearly all of her stories; she probes women's circumstances from their own perspective and shows the effect of the male on the female world. Mansfield's development as an exponent of women's concerns is a subject well worth critical attention. For a full appreciation of her artistic achievement this development must be seen in relation to the refinement of her technique. I would argue that it is not until the story "Prelude," approximately one-third of the way through her canon, that Mansfield cultivates the aesthetic sophistication necessary for a rounded portrayal of womanhood. Her earliest stories, particularly the German Pension stories, are crudely rendered. They have neither the depth of characterization nor the subtlety of style necessary to uphold their ambitious theme. "Prelude" is a pivotal work in Mansfield's career~2 In this I piece she presents a community of women stratified by age and class investigating their sexuality, struggling with the role of women in a world controlled by men.
