Scripture Lessons: Isaiah 63:15-64:4 Psalm 80: 1-7

Hear, O Shepherd of Israel, you that led Joseph like a flock. Shine forth, you that are enthroned upon the cherubim, before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your mighty strength and come to our salvation. Turn us again, O God; show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved. O Lord God of hosts, how long will you be angry at your people’s prayer? You feed them with the bread of tears; you give them abundance of tears to drink. You have made us the derision of our neighbors, and our enemies laugh us to scorn. Turn us again, O God of hosts; show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved.

Virtual Sanctuary Fellowship Has Begun! Advent is a time when we cherish the ties that bind us within our church. That’s not been too easy with the pandemic, but there are ways to nurture our mutual ties despite the Covid-related constraints on our gatherings. At 9:30 am every Sunday d uring the Advent season, we wil l open a Zoom room and welcome all who wish to enter f or a time of fellowship. I t will be a little like the fellowship we had prior to the worship service w hen we were able to gather in the sanctuary—and will again, when this is behind us. Don’t worry how you’re dressed. Casual is fi ne. Come late or leave early if you wish. It’s just a time to be with frie nds for a few minutes and to catch up with each other, to keep in touch and re-con nect. One of the miracles of being church together is the blessing we bring to each other simply by being together in fellowship. T his can happen even in an online Zoom room. Join online or by phone. Either way w orks fine. Our time together will conclude by 9:55 am, in time for our 10:00 am worship service. You would then log into the livestream or other platform you use to join the service. I f you have qu estions, contact Tim Byerly w ho can help you: [email protected]. The Zoom mee ting information is the same for Sunday school (see below). Somehow or other, it came just the same! --Dr. Seuss, How the Stole Christmas It’s coming, and NOTHING can stop it! Not shutdown, not separation, not a virus, not even the Grinch could stop Christmas from coming to our Church Family! On Wednesday, December 9, at 6:30 PM, you and your loved ones are invited to let Christmas zoom from house to house and heart to heart as the Home Church Family gathers virtually for a time of GREAT JOY! This online soirée will feature a fellowship time and a (video) Christmas talent show! Fellowship Time will allow us to break into “zoom rooms” where you and a small group of other members can enjoy conversation. You may wish to show off your , share favorite recipes, or answer questions like “favorite Christmas memory,” “funniest lovefeast story,” or “Who among us has thrown up on Christmas morning?” (okay, maybe not that one). Christmas Talent Show: Can you play an instrument, sing a song, share a poem, dance a dance? Maybe your family would even like to perform a silly Christmas skit. Use your cell phone to video your best Christmas- themed act, and send it to the church office ([email protected]). We’ll compile the acts into a single, fabulous Home Church Christmas Talent Show that will air the night of the party! So mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30! No reservation required… a Zoom link will be available to all church members. Christmas is coming, Beloved. So come, all ye faithful, virtual and triumphant! The deadline draws near to submit your Christmas-themed talent video for the Home Church Virtual Christmas Party! Can you play, sing, rap, or dance to a ? Do you know a good Christmas knock-knock joke? Can you perform a non-Christmas talent act while wearing Christmas pajamas? GREAT! Just put yourself on cell phone video (hold your phone sideways, with the button to the right) and send it to the church office. If you have trouble sending it, contact Mark Wright at [email protected] and he’ll find a way to help you!

Deadline is November 30! Party is December 9! Hurry, Christmas, don’t be late!

Christmas Eve 2020

Christmas Eve is one of Home Church’s great ongoing ministries. For many of our visitors, their presence in a Christmas Eve lovefeast might well be their only church experience of the year. It is a privilege to be make Christ’s love visible in those lovefeast services. From well before sunup to way past sundown on Christmas Eve, the Home Church congregation is in mission to the community.

The Board of Elders has been thinking hard about how to keep that mission going this year. Our congregation’s commitment to our Christmas Eve mission has inspired some creative and exciting plans. Here is what you can expect for Christmas Eve 2020:

Sanctuary decorating will not happen in the usual way this year, but we will use a combination of our traditional decorations and some beautiful new work by Home Church member Jennifer Brannon (Green Bee Floral Designs)! We still plan to use the star, the lighted nativity picture, the candles in the front windows, and the on the flower stands. We will not have the garlands this year, but Jennifer will be decorating the choir rail and surrounding area with abundant greenery and accents. Those of you who have seen Jennifer’s work at Home Church weddings know that she will do a marvelous job for our Christmas setting.

FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY:

On Christmas Eve, from 10 am to 1 pm, the drive around the square will be repeated for the wider community. In contrast to our congregational drive-around on the 20th, t his one will be broadly publicized in new spapers and on the internet. Once again we’ll offer buns, candles, and odes, bu t with powdered coffee mix instead o f the quarts of prepared coffee.

Lovefeast services (prerecorded) will be available for community viewing on our website at 2:30 (children’s lovefeast), 5:00, and 7 PM .
