2019 Hampton Rovers Annual Report 2019 ANNUAL REPORT 90th Annual Report of the Hampton Rovers FC CLUB HISTORY.. Hampton Rovers Amateur Football Club first started as an organised activity for the First Hampton Scout Group by Norm (Boss) James in 1918. The Scout Group’s main theme was to promote football as a team game and encourage self-confidence, self-control and a desire to improve a player’s ability. This is similar to the current philosophy used by the club today. Initially, games were played socially against other Scout Groups and then in the Association Sub-district competition. The club as we know it today was established in 1929 and as the incentive to play a higher standard became apparent, another competition was sought and in 1933, Hampton Rovers was accepted into the Metropolitan Amateur Football competition, which later became the Victorian Amateur Football Association. In 1963 the club moved from its Ludstone Street ground to the corner of David Street and Bluff Road, our present home. In 2002 this ground was formally named the “Boss James Reserve” in memory of the club’s founder. In 1979 the Hampton Rovers Football Club started its youth policy by introducing junior teams in an effort to provide an extensive link with the local community and to provide a development scheme for the senior side. The club now fields 28 junior teams in the South Metro Junior Football League, with over 600 boys and girls. The Rovers have won nine senior premierships and were the first club to win the flag in each of the four senior VAFA sections when it won the ‘A Section’ premiership in 1951. Nine Reserve and 10 Under 19 premierships have also been won by the Rovers, which celebrated its 90th year in 2019. 2019 PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS. It has been a privilege for me to work with so many people who volunteer and contribute to the Football club to ensure it's on field success. I would like to thank Kate Robb for all her help and contribution as Junior Treasurer and Board Member her advice and support throughout the year has been superb. The co-operation and unity with the Junior club operating together strengthens the club and overall makes it more successful. In 2019 after expenses of $290K the club has reported a profit of $53K. This represents a profit of 18% on the turnover, after a couple of years of small losses it is good to be back in the black. Summary of the financial results for the year. • Junior and Senior memberships all exceeded 2018 results reflecting increased membership and collections by $27,571. • Revenue raised from Fundraising was stronger than in 2018 with a successful 90/40 anniversary. • Major sponsors remained strong and in line with prior years however there was a drop off smaller sponsors this is an opportunity in 2020 • Merchandise was well managed and made a profit of $15K. • Catering and Bar income up on last year whilst overall costs were down providing a profit of $34K. • Administration and utility expenses–were all controlled and down on 2018. • Overall playing expenses were down on last year, this was due to strong control of costs with $8K being saved on playing equipment, whilst medical costs were managed, and a lower number of finals games were played by the seniors. The club is in a very sound financial position and as a committee we will continue to be accountable by reducing unnecessary costs and generating revenue to meet the ongoing annual expenses. The cash position of club remains healthy thanks to the generous donation by Peter Streets estate back in 2015. The aim of the committee is to maintain Peter’s donation and not use it for operating costs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors throughout the year, without them the football club cannot continue to be the success it is.

VFL Round 1 14 - 17 April 2017 $3.00 Photo: Cameron Grimes New VFL season begins Welcome to season 2017 in the Peter Jackson VFL. Plenty has happened since last September when Footscray was crowned premier. We have seen 13 VFL players provided with an AFL opportunity, selected in the 2016 NAB AFL national and rookie draft s. Casey and Geelong both produced three draft ees, with Coburg, Footscray and North Ballarat providing two draft ees each. The pleasing aspect has been seeing the likes of Tom Stewart, Mitch Hannan, Robbie Fox and Tim Smith debut in the early rounds of the AFL season. The competition this year will feature 14 clubs, with Frankston not provided a VFL licence for the 2017 season. The club has had a rich history of providing a pathway and opportunities for footballers in the region – none more evident than the debut for Sydney in recent weeks of 2014 Fothergill-Round Medal winner Nic Newman. However, it was decided at the end of last year that without the necessary off -field structures in place, AFL Victoria was not confident financial projections provided by the club could be met. We have a strong willingness to ensure there is a VFL presence in the region into the future, but it must be viable and sustainable both on and off the field in the long term. This has been highlighted in the regular communication AFL Victoria has had with the new board at the club. In other pre-season news, at the VFL Season Launch last week we revealed there will be a triple-header of matches for the 2017 Victorian state league Grand Final day at Etihad Stadium on Sunday September 24.

VFL Round 1 9 & 10 April 2016 $3.00 Race for glory starts anew Welcome to the start of the 2016 Peter Jackson VFL season. It has been six months since stand-alone side Williamstown held aloft the premiership trophy at Etihad Stadium aft er defeating the Box Hill Hawks in the 2015 season finale, and the race for the 2016 title starts this weekend. At the end of last year it was pleasing to see eight players draft ed to the AFL from the VFL – with the competition enjoying the most national NAB AFL Draft selections (four) since 2006. In 2016 there will be 35 VFL draft ees on AFL lists – including names such as Michael Barlow, Ed Curnow, Matt Jones, Adam Saad and Ben Brown – which is a credit to the work done by our state-league clubs in helping develop talent for the elite level. Clubs have again attracted a strong mix of former AFL talent, many hoping to emulate the likes of Mitch Brown and Cameron Wood from recent years with a return to the AFL in future years, while the number of former TAC Cup players within the competition has grown again in 2016. Peter Jackson VFL action returns to Channel 7 in its new Sunday home for 2016 with Port Melbourne hosting Collingwood in Round 1. Ratings were up by 50 per cent last year, with 49,000 viewers on average tuning in to watch the best state league football has to off er. This year we will also be video streaming a game each Saturday via vfl.com.au, with Coburg and North Ballarat featuring in the season-opener.
