The film has set a record of sorts, by 02 completing the entire shoot in just 30 days. Lead actor Akshay Kumar credits his director Subhash Kapoor for the meticulously planned schedule, adding that the real-life locations and back-to- back shooting of songs helped the team wrap up in record time. The romantic track ‘Bawra Mann’, 03 filmed on Akshay Kumar and huma Qureshi, was originally made for Akshay’s 2015 comedy “Singh is BliIng.” The makers decided not to use it because it did not fit in with the film’s slapstick brand of comedy. Kapoor’s “Guddu Rangeela” (2014) dealt with the khap panchayats of India. THE CAST: Akshay Kumar leads the charge as Kanpur- based small-time lawyer Jolly. The first film had Amrita Singh as Jolly’s love interest; here we see huma Qureshi playing an eye-rolling partner to the man who slowly gains respect in her eyes. Boman Irani has been replaced by Annu Kapoor, who brings his own brand of vileness to the court proceedings. Saurabh Shukla, whose turn as the arbiter was both hilarious and impactful, returns in the same role, this time judging an even more challenging case. Assistant Professor of South, East Asia and Oceania Studies, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran ([email protected]) 3. M. A. in Indian Studies, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran ([email protected]) (Received: Jan. 2, 2019 Revised: Feb. 28, 2019 Accepted: Ma r. 28, 2019) Abstract This study investigates the representations of Hindu-Muslim relationship in Bollywood movies from 2008 to 2018. It is assumed that after 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, which are known as 26/11, conflicts between Hindus and Muslims have escalated. Since Indian people are extreme fans of movies, especially Bollywood movies, in this regard, it is expected that media could play a significant role in increasing or alleviating the conflicts by influencing people’s attitudes and opinions. This research seeks to examine the extent and modality of the representation of Hindu-Muslim relationships in Bollywood after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The study was conducted through a content analysis of 11 Bollywood movies, which were selected from 70 Muslim-characters-based movies. Favorable, unfavorable, neutral and unclear were the four factors through which the movies’ contents were analyzed. The overall analysis of these factors indicate that 66.17% of the scenes were favorable, 14.70% were unfavorable, 2.94% were neutral, and 16.17% presented unclear images of Hindu-Muslim relationship in Bollywood movies.

Imtiaz Ali and Actor Huma Qureshi join hands to essay the new Kesh King ad story By : INVC Team Published On : 15 Mar, 2016 05:38 PM IST INVC NEWS Chandigarh, Kesh King , the popular Ayurvedic hair care brand of India is set to release the first ever ad film post its big ticket acquisition by the Kolkata based leading Indian FMCG CompanyEmami Limited. For its new television commercial, Kesh King has brought together talented duo of Bollywood under one umbrella, viz Imtiaz Ali, the famed film director of Bollywood hits like Jab We Met, Rockstar, Highway etc , and the gorgeous Huma Qureshi of Gangs of Wasseypur, DedhIshqiya to narrate the new ad film story of Kesh King. The new TVC goes on air on the national television from mid March, 2016. Speaking on this occasion, Ms. Priti A. Sureka, Director, Emami Limited, said, “Till now the brand Kesh King used to run mass communication messages focusing only on the functional benefits of the product. Post-acquisition of the brand, we have conducted extensive consumer research which threw up myriad moments of truth in the life of an Indian woman for her falling, damaged, dull & lifeless hair due to daily stress, improper diet, pollution, weather and many other reasons. We have found out that many women tend to suffer from low confidence, low self-esteem and even depression due to problems like excessive hair fall, premature greying and unhealthy hair quality. Basis this insight, we thought of weaving in these consumer findings in our ad story and establish Kesh King as the one stop solution for all these hair woes of women and give them back healthy lustrous hair along with their lost confidence and happiness.

  • Jolly Llb – a Review
JOLLY LLB – A REVIEW Written by ANIRUDHA Saturday, 16 March 2013 03:22 The trailer and the punch lines were a lure enough to catch the movie. Also the star cast of Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani known for their comic timing were a good reason to go to the theater to have a good time. It could be defined as a sharply made spoof that really does not switch into a preachy mode. The reality of judiciary system in our country is not hidden from any one, but the presentation and performance is what makes the movie a worthy watch. Talking about the story, young lawyer Jagdish Tyagi aka Jolly played by Arshad Warsi is frustrated with his legal career going nowhere. He leaves Meerut and moves to Delhi in search of thriving opportunities. Easy popularity comes knocking on his door when he tries to encash some residual fame off a Land Cruiser hit and run case fashioned on the similar BMW case of Sanjeev Nanda by filing a PIL. Pitted against the very best lawyer Rajpal played by Boman Irani who shrewdly scores over Jolly by virtue of his obvious position, stature he has attained in his profession and experience, this fight isn’t an easy one. Jolly suddenly finds himself down from every side with manipulations and threats coming his way. Truth demands strength so can Jolly uncover the intricacies of the case, and fight the likes of such powerful men? What unfolds is a fascinating legal drama, harsh face offs and a strong ending. Now coming down to the performances, the script is not a very elaborate one, but surely leaves room for a brilliant screenplay to flow.

  • Ruth Prawer Jhabvala's Adapted Screenplays
Absorbing the Worlds of Others: Ruth Prawer Jhabvala’s Adapted Screenplays By Laura Fryer Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of a PhD degree at De Montfort University, Leicester. Funded by Midlands 3 Cities and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. June 2020 i Abstract Despite being a prolific and well-decorated adapter and screenwriter, the screenplays of Ruth Prawer Jhabvala are largely overlooked in adaptation studies. This is likely, in part, because her life and career are characterised by the paradox of being an outsider on the inside: whether that be as a European writing in and about India, as a novelist in film or as a woman in industry. The aims of this thesis are threefold: to explore the reasons behind her neglect in criticism, to uncover her contributions to the film adaptations she worked on and to draw together the fields of screenwriting and adaptation studies. Surveying both existing academic studies in film history, screenwriting and adaptation in Chapter 1 -- as well as publicity materials in Chapter 2 -- reveals that screenwriting in general is on the periphery of considerations of film authorship. In Chapter 2, I employ Sandra Gilbert’s and Susan Gubar’s notions of ‘the madwoman in the attic’ and ‘the angel in the house’ to portrayals of screenwriters, arguing that Jhabvala purposely cultivates an impression of herself as the latter -- a submissive screenwriter, of no threat to patriarchal or directorial power -- to protect herself from any negative attention as the former. However, the archival materials examined in Chapter 3 which include screenplay drafts, reveal her to have made significant contributions to problem-solving, characterisation and tone.
