His contributionsand awardsare legendaryin El Paso's history. Accordingto anotherfounder, "Chris Fox is really the personresponsible for the Athletic Hall of Fame." Roy Lown One of the premierebowlers in the city's history, Roy Lown is the first male bowler to enter the El paso Athletic Hall of Fame. He won five city scratchall event titlesfrom 1953-1960.In 1960,he set two citytournament recordsthat still stand:highest series (792) and highestall eventsscore (2,074 for nine games).He was a charter memberof the ProfessionalBowlers Association. He won the first televisedProfessional Bowlers Association Invitational Tournamentin 1961.He placedhieh on the PBA moneylist several times prior to retiringf6r several years.He has returnedto bowling and is averaging190. Ken George Ken Georgewas a four-yearstarter and lettermanon TexasWestern College football teamsfrom 1953-1957. He excelledat guard and was namedto All Border Conferencesquads in 1954a\d 1956.He was named captainof the TWC Border Conferencechampionship teamin 1956.He playedin threeSun Bowl games, two of them on winning teamsagainst Mississippi Southern (1954)and Florida State (1955). He latercoached at TWC from 1957-1961.He subsequently coached at AbileneHigh School from 1962-1964and BurgesHigh School from 1964-1968.He is presentlyprincipal at Irvin High School. Ted Banks Ted Banks,University of Texasat El Paso headtrack coachsince 1973, is the most successfultrack coachin the United States.He has led the Miner thinclads to 14 NCAA crosscountry and track championships (Iive in crosscountry, six in indoor track and three in outdoor track)-more than any coachin collegiate history. His outstandingteams have also won 2l Western Athletic ConferenceChampionships in nineyears. During his tenure at UTEP, more than 20 schoolrecords have beenbroken and he has coachedtwo Olympic Silver Medalists(Greg Joy and SuleimanNyambui). Lawrence"Sag" Shea "Sag" Shea,the cofounderof the presentEl PasoTennis Club, wasone ofthe mostpopular and belovedathletes in El Paso.He alsoexcelled in basketball,which gave him his nickname,becoming the first freshmanever to makethe TexasLonghorn varsity squad.But tenniswas also his sport and "Sag"played in l2 SouthwestVeterans Tennis Tournaments,winning six and finishingin the finalseach time.
