, a standout golfer from Davis High School who was the 2007 Delta Valley Con- Tylerference most valuable Raber player as well as his team’s MVP, has signed a National Letter of Intent with UC Davis and will join the Aggies next fall, it was announced on Monday by head coach Cy Williams.

Raber joins the UC Davis program after posting an impressive 71.8 stroke average last season for Davis High School, claiming medalist honors with a 66 at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North Championships and sharing medalist honors at the Masters’ Championships. He helped lead Davis High School to a runner-up finish at the section tournament.

Raber went on to tie for fourth at the CIF-Northern California Boys Golf Championships, qualifying for the state championships. Besides being named his league’s MVP last season, Raber was an All-Monticello Empire League first-team selection in 2005 and 2006 and has been named his team’s MVP each of the past three seasons.

Raber, also the 2007 Sacramento Bee All-Metro Player of the Year and a first-team selection last season, has also highlighted 2007 by winning the California State Fair Boys Championship after a three-hole . He is currently 46th nationally among 2008 graduates in the Polo Golf Rankings and posted a pair of top-six finishes this past sum- mer in American Junior Golf Association events.

“We’re very happy that Tyler has chosen UC Davis,” said UC Davis coach Cy Williams. “He’s had a lot of success in junior golf and has done well in the classroom. A big part of his success is that he is a very competitive person, and I think that attribute will help him succeed at the collegiate level and will help make our team better. He’s from Davis, and it’s been fun to watch him grow and mature into a very talented athlete. We can’t wait to get started working with him.”

Dennis Carson, a standout golfer from Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, has signed a National Letter of Intent with UC Davis and will join the Aggie men’s golf team this fall, head coach Cy Williams has announced.

In addition to prepping at Junipero Serra, Carson spent the 2006-07 academic year at The Pendleton School and the highly acclaimed David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Florida.

At Serra, Carson helped lead his prep team to Central Coast Section championships in 2005 and 2006 as well as a West Catholic Athletic title in 2005. The Padres entered this month with a 10-1 record and a first-place standing in their league with Carson carrying a 34.5 stroke average for nine holes.

He has several notable wins including victories on the California Junior Tour this year at the Metropolitan Open and in 2007 at Rancho Canada. Carson also posted an individual title in 2007 on the Future Collegiate World Tour and in 2005 was the Northern California Junior State Champion.

Additionally, Carson finished third at the 2006 California State Junior Amateur, has represented the Junior Golf As- sociation of Northern California in selected North-South matches in 2006, and in 2004 was a member of a USA team that competed in Scotland in matches.

“We’re very happy to have Dennis join our program,” said Aggie coach Cy Williams. “Not only is he an outstanding athlete but he really wanted to come here, and that means a lot to us. With his talent, competitive nature and willing- ness to work hard he’ll help the depth of our team. He has the skills to compete for a starting position right away and we look for him to come in and do just that.” Tournament Results Team Retreat Sept. 10-13, 2007

On top of some great team and individual Aggie Golf accomplishments this year there were many other exciting events happening with the Golf Program. This year saw the opening of the Edward H Williams Aggie Practice tee, the purchase of Trackman, another great year of our relationship with Nike Golf, and continued support from parents, alumni, and supporters of the Golf Program. I’d like to take a few minutes to say thank you to some very important and well-deserved people.

Edward H Williams Aggie Practice Tee My father was an avid golfer and got me started playing when I was seven years old. It was his wish before he passed away to make a donation to the UC Davis Golf Program, so in his name my brother Chad Williams and I helped to start the practice tee. Located at the back of the range at Wildhorse GC, this 8000 square foot tee is for the exclusive use of the Men’s and Women’s Golf Programs here. The tee provides a great opportunity for our players to develop their games, especially those wedges!

Trackman Led by a big supporter of UC Davis and our Golf Program – Reno Cruz – we were able to purchase a Trackman. In addition to Reno, the Aggies would like to thank Larry and Linda Raber, Alan and Scottie Button, Tony and Aleta Graham, Bob and Julie Marshall, Dale and Charloette Huffman, Charlene and Rick George and Pat Pistacchio for their very generous support. We are one of only a handful of teams in the nation to own this amazing piece of training equipment. Nike Golf Once again we were honored to have Nike Golf as our exclusive equipment and apparel sponsor of the UC Da- vis Golf Team. We are one of a select few Golf Programs in the nation that are fortunate enough to have this rela- tionship with Nike Golf. We want to thank the President of Nike Golf and UC Davis graduate Bob , Global Sports Marketing Director Kel Devlin, Collegiate Program Manager Cricket Musch, Matt Plumb, Travis Thompson, and all the staff at Nike Golf for everything they do.

Aggie Parents Without a doubt we have the best parents in the country! It seems like we have the biggest follow- ing at every tournament, and the parents are always there to help out whenever needed, whether it’s hosting a dinner for the team, helping to make arrangements for gatherings, supporting the things we do for the Program, or just calling the coach and keeping his spirits up all the time! Ev- erything we do with our Golf Program is a team effort and we’re indebted to the incredible sup- port of our amazing Aggie Parents. Coach Bob It was great to finally have a coach that knows something about golf on our team! Bob Marshall stepped in as a Volunteer Coach mid-way through the campaign to help the Ags. Bob has an extensive background in golf – besides being an outstanding golfer (he competed in the 2002 US Senior Open) he is the “B” in OB Sports, a professional golf management company. Bob helped all our players with various aspects of their games and was Matt’s personal coach during tourna- ments. He helped us with course strategy during our practice rounds and was a valuable resource to me when discussing our team. Besides being there as a coach, Bob has been a great friend. The Ags were very lucky to have you along for the ride this year Coach Bob!
