Vol. 130/07/2017

15 th & 16 th July 2017

Responsorial Psalm

Draw us after you, Virgin Mary; we shall follow in your footsteps.

1. Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent and dwell on your holy mountain? R.

2. He who walks without fault; he who acts with justice and speaks the truth from his heart; R.

3. He who does not slander with his tongue, he who does no wrong to his brother, who casts no slur on his neighbour; R.

4. who holds the godless in disdain, but honours those who fear the Lord. R.

GOSPEL: John 19:25-27 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, ’Woman, tis is your son.’ Then to the disciple he said, ’This is our mother.’ And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it. Alleluia! July 16! Carmelite Day! All over the world the Carmelite orders – O. Carm and OCD, also the Carmelite third order - celebrate the solemnity of , the patroness of the Carmelite Order. First off, I wish each and every member of our parish community all the blessings and prayers through loving and powerful mediation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

On this solemn day, secondly, I like to reflect on two things. and SABBATINE PRIVILEGE.

SCAPULAR . We, Catholics, have an ardent devotion towards Scapular all over the world. It is given by Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Traditionally we believe, “Through a , the Blessed Virgin Mary is said to appear to Saint and given him the Brown Scapular, in the 13 century”. It is the source of our devotion to scapular. To specify, Scapular is a sacramental associated with the promises of Blessed Virgin Mary’s special aid for the salvation of the devoted wearer. Let us put on the scapular for our salvation and show our attachment to Our Lady.

SABBATINE PRIVILEGE . It is also connected with Our Lady of Mount Carmel. In the simplest terms, it is the Saturday devotion to Blessed Virgin Mary. It defines the early liberation of souls from purgatory through the special intercession and petition of the Virgin Mary, which she graciously exercises in favour of her devoted servants preferentially on Saturday, the day consecrated to her. So let us not miss the Saturday devotion to Blessed Virgin Mary.

Our parish is also dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us be proud of this gracious gift of God and prove ourselves as the true of children of Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

May God bless you ALL through the intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel! Fr Albin OCD
