Art & Cursive Writing Artroom______News: Mr. Woehl -Grades3&4 -February, 2014 ______POP ART Welcome to February! The past few weeks have been crazy with all of the snow days and delays, but we are pressing on in the art room!
This month the students have been reviewing their cursive letters to prepare for their mid-year review. They will be will observing the art movement known as Pop Art. This movement started in the mid 1950’s in London, England. The artists took icons and everyday objects from Pop Culture and transformed them into art. The movement soon appeared in the United States through the artwork of artists such as Andy Warhol, Wayne Thiebaud, and Roy Lichtenstein.
Fun Facts
Roy Lichtenstein attended The Ohio State University where he later became a professor.
The subject of his paintings were inspired by old comic book.
Andy Warhol was known mostly for his photography, but was also a painter and printmaker.
He was friends with many famous celebrities who would want him to take their picture.
Wayne Thiebaud became famous by painting images of cakes, pies, ice cream, and many other types of desert.
When he first arrived in New York City, he walked up and down the streets asking art galleries to represent him. After being rejected all day he happened to be sitting on a bench right in front of the house of an art dealer. This art dealer saw his paintings and decided to represent him.
