Target Joins with the Itunes Store to Offer Exclusive Albums Target Joins With the iTunes Store to Offer Exclusive Albums August 25, 2009 Target & iTunes Make Pearl Jam's New Album, Backspacer Exclusively Available MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Target today announced it's working with the iTunes Store to provide a special Target area on iTunes, www.itunes.com/target, for exclusive album content. The first album to be featured will be Pearl Jam's forthcoming ninth studio album, Backspacer. Scheduled for release on September 20, Backspacer will be available in the U.S. exclusively through Target, Target.com, iTunes, Pearl Jam's Ten Club website and independent retailers. The first noted instance of referring to a Seattle band as “grunge,” was in a 1981 letter by Mark Arm, according to Clark Humphrey in his account of the Seattle music scene, Loser. pearl jam Bruce Pavitt later claimed to have popularized the term as a musical label in 1987, when he wrote some promotional copy for Green River, describing the band as “ultra-loose grunge that destroyed the morals of a generation”. In the late 80s, “grunge” did actually define a sound – high levels of distortion, feedback, fuzz effects, a fusion of punk and metal influences. Many of these bands were on either the C/Z or Sub Pop record labels. Jack Endino, the so-called “Godfather of Grunge” recorded Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Green River, Nirvana and Blood Circus between 1984 and 1989.

Publicado por: Joaquín Borges-Triana Aunque han transcurrido casi 20 años, me parece que fue ayer cuando los amantes del rock en este país nos enamoramos de aquella revolución sonora procedente de Seattle y que pusiera en circulación por el mundo entero términos como grunge y rock alternativo. Nombres como Nirvana, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Alice in Chains y Pearl Jam fueron ídolos para una generación de cubanos, así como admirados por quienes —sin pertenecer al grupo etáreo de los hoy «treintiañeros»—captamos los valores esenciales de una movida que, entre nosotros, no solo repercutió en el ámbito de los roqueros sino también en el de los cantautores. Cierto que los de entonces ya no somos los mismos. Muchas de las bandas que causaron furor en los 90 han desaparecido. También es verdad que la mayoría de los seguidores de la corriente, y que en Ciudad de La Habana colmaban los escenarios para los conciertos de una agrupación como Havana (uno de los principales cultores del estilo por acá), se han desperdigado. Empero, no únicamente queda la nostalgia por aquellos años, en los que se fue intensamente feliz. Una amiga de dicho período por estos días me ha hecho llegar un disco, que me trae un montón de recuerdos a la cabeza.
