  • ARGENTINA Argentina Boasts a Wealth of Natural Resources And
ARGENTINA Argentina boasts a wealth of natural resources and areas of great scenic beauty, including high summits and plains, lush forests and absolutely arid deserts, woods and steppes, glaciers and waterfalls. Any landscape you may imagine, you can find somewhere on Argentine soil. Argentine winemaking regions are often located in broad valleys or sloping plains and offer ideal conditions for grape growing. It should also be noted that most of our vineyards are located far from the cities and their pollution, and grow on young, scarcely tilled soils. Every detail makes Argentine wine unique, authentic, remarkable due to its intense colors, deep aromas and broad range of flavors. The fact that the Argentine wine regions develop amidst the aridity and dryness of our landscape leads us to refer to them as oases. These oases can be classified into regions and subregions. Some stand out for their altitude, such as the Calchaquíes Valleys, in the North; others for the aridity of the land, such as the valleys in the provinces of Mendoza, San Juan and La Rioja; and there are also low altitude oases in Patagonia, with intense ripening periods Mendoza, the sun and wine province Mendoza, which integrates the network of the 9 Great Wine Capitals, is divided into five wine growing regions: North, Central Oasis, East, Uco Valley and South regions. Uco Valley Wine Region Uco Valley is located approximately 100km SouthWest of Mendoza, between 33.3 and 33,8 south latitude. In recent years, it has become a top destination for tourists and wine conoisseurs. It covers the departments of Tunuyán, Tupungato and San Carlos, at the foothill of the Andes.

It is their way of perpetuating and paying tribute to the pioneering work of Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Benjamin de Rothschild’s father, who created the company in 1973 by purchasing Château Clarke, a little- known Cru Bourgeois estate in the Listrac-Médoc appellation. ARGENTINE WINE, REDEFINED Meet the pioneering leaders of the country’s From the choicest subzones of Mendoza’s Uco Valley, a new crop of small-batch Malbecs is forcing tasters to reconsider the basic parameters of Argentina’s signature wine. Meanwhile, along the banks of the Río most innovative wine projects. Negro in Patagonia, a small winery with big aspirations is turning the obscure Trousseau grape into an entirely New World wine. • Argentina's Wine Labels
Vino del Sol Hanging out in Argentina for a week with VdS’s owners Thane Prichard & Alejandro Bourientos, convinced me that these guys are doing it right --- unlike any other American importer of Argentina wines, they are on the ground and directly involved with their producers. Alejandro --- kind of Argentina’s version of Master Somm. Larry Stone (but not as nerdy) -- was plucked from Buenos Aires’ Five Star property (The Alvear/Palace Hotel), because he knew all of the top players, along with the up & coming superstars. “Aly” as he’s known, quickly introduced Thane & his other business partner to the local superstars, who in turn introduced them to the up & coming stars. Spending a few days, dining in some of the top restaurants from Mendoza to Buenos Aires, convinced me all of these producers are on Argentina’s “cutting edge”.... And better yet --- Vino del Sol never rests on their laurels, always evaluating their current group of producers & tweaking their portfolio to conform to their model. If a current producer makes any changes --- not just in pricing, but from vineyard sources to winemaking practices --- they will be closely scrutinized by the partners to see if these are actual improvements, or cost-cutting maneuvers. And the latter will soon be discontinued... Argentina Quick Facts - High desert climate: dry and mucho sol (300+ Days per Year); the environment allows for consistency in the quality of wine produced from year to year - 3,000 feet and higher vineyard altitudes; this altitude creates drastic day and night temperature differences, which in turn produce more concentrated fruit - Argentina’s vines are more resistant to pests (notably the Phylloxera insect), which result in older vines (many of the wineries with whom Vino del Sol is working have vines over 80 years old).

  • Wine Tourism in Mendoza, Argentina: a Proposal for the Marketing of “Wine Heritage Trails” in the Malbec Landscape
World Review of Business Research Vol. 6. No. 2. September 2016 Issue. Pp. 80 – 97 Wine Tourism in Mendoza, Argentina: A Proposal for the Marketing of “Wine Heritage Trails” in the Malbec Landscape Emiliano C. Villanueva* and Liliana Girini** In recent times wine tourism has become important in Mendoza, Argentina. Current wine tourism strategies in Mendoza do not incorporate the landscape heritage dimension. The paper argues that new and heritage focus wine tourism strategies should be implemented in order to enrich the understanding of wine culture and promote the development of wine tourism in the Malbec region. In order to achieve so, the paper explores the heritage in the three wine areas of the province of Mendoza, Argentina, and proposes seven specific “Wine Heritage Trails” for the Malbec region. These trails represent distinctive historical assets and landscapes, emphasize a heritage perspective, and articulate a credible argument that reveals to the visitor the complex web of relationships and the meanings that originated them. JEL Codes: M31 and M38 1. Introduction Heritage is understood as a territorial context in which personal property, buildings, and landscapes coexist and are shaped by economic development; this is a well-defined environmental surrounding with multiple historical references, which together offers enormous possibilities for tourism activities as a development mechanism. The wine sector is presented as an integrating element of the historical, industrial, cultural, and landscape heritage for the development of wine tourism (Medina-Albaladejo et al., 2013). At present, in the Malbec region there has been progress in the supply of new goods and services that seek to enrich the experience of wine through tourist programs.
