  • Satan's Trance Media & Magic Final Exam Colleen Viana 12
SATAN’S TRANCE MEDIA & MAGIC FINAL EXAM https://vimeo.com/55339082 COLLEEN VIANA 12/11/12 Sensation can be defined as the mediation of body and world. It enforces and impacts a premonition of what our bodies experience upon some type of contact. Thus, it allows the body to be opened up to other forces and becomings that affirm in and as the future. This concept, posed by Elizabeth Grosz in Chaos, Territory, Art: Deleuze and the Framing of the Earth, is quite eminent in the subject of magic. The quandry of it as the mediation of object and experience, or science and religion, is what drew me to this video experimentation of the mediations created by media in occult and horror film. While sensation is, perhaps, the only state of consciousness that is impossible to scientifically measure, as are the limits of magic, I find it more valuable to visually see how it can be created/manipulated. The juxtaposition of horror film/television clips, and electronic music (with cosmological and haunting characteristics), and documentary footage from raves/electronic music festivals (that possess qualities of the occult) is experimented in this project. The latter adds an extra layer to this research, paralleling a cultural music phenomenon with the magical representations and rites defined by Mauss. With these media devices combined, I hope to embody this sensory experience that Grosz explains “as the contraction of vibrations...the forces of becoming-other” (Grosz, 80-1). Essentially, how can we experience Hollywood-defined magic and the magic associated with music and rave culture differently? In this video montage, I aim to highlight the three components of magic presented in Mauss’ A General Theory of Magic, in relation to the electronic dance music (EDM) culture.

PRESS KIT 2018 Our Story. Mother knows best For Ken Park, aloe meant much more than just the occasional sunburn remedy – it was part of everyday life – thanks to his mother, Myong Park. When he was growing up, his mom experienced extreme digestive health issues. She tried everything. After failing to find any traditional pharmaceutical remedy, a doctor suggested trying aloe. Needless to say, the aloe worked wonders! Not only were her stomach pains alleviated, but she was beginning to experience the other benefits aloe had to offer, including a boost in her immune system – not to mention the natural glow and enhanced complexions of her skin. She realized aloe was one of Mother Nature’s unmatchable gifts that she had to share with her loved ones. So, the Park family quickly became a pack of aloe enthusiasts. Every morning, Ken’s mom would make fruit and yogurt smoothies mixed with a healthy dose of aloe to ensure her kids started the day off right! Fast forward to 2012 – Ken is enrolled at Babson College. Living the typical college lifestyle, Ken immediately noticed a difference in his overall well-being. He knew just what was missing – aloe. Without having his Mom around, Ken was forced to solve the problem himself. He searched high and low for a ready-to-drink aloe beverage, but was disappointed when he only found products that either tasted unhealthy and had very little aloe, or no taste at all but had the recommended amount of aloe content per serving. Ken saw a huge void in the marketplace.

  • Defining Unreasonable Radius Clauses for American Music Festivals
Defining Unreasonable Radius Clauses for American Music Festivals Trevor Lane* ABSTRACT Since 1969, the music festival remains a staple of American musical culture, and in order to meet consumer demands, today’s music festival promoters rely on radius clauses ancillary to the performance agreements that they use with artists. These radius clauses limit artists’ ability to perform at other music festivals and concerts within a specified temporal and geographic radius of the contracted music festival. Beginning in 2010, legal challenges have alleged that broadly defined radius clauses used by music festival promoters violate Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act. This Note contends that radius clauses which limit artists from performing beyond the festival’s geographic market and fail to distinguish between festivals and concert performances should be considered unreasonable restraints of trade in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, because such radius clauses restrict more competition than is necessary to protect the festival promoter’s legitimate objectives. * Juris Doctor Candidate and music enthusiast at Seattle University School of Law. Thank you to all the live music festival promoters and attorneys working to ensure a vibrant and sustainable live music market. Additionally, thank you to Professor Kirkwood for igniting my passion for antitrust law; to Steven Graham for helping me understand how radius clauses function in today’s music festivals; the team of Seattle University Law Review editors that worked on this Note; and to my family and friends for their endless support. Finally, thank you to all artists—your music inspires me daily. 1247 1248 Seattle University Law Review [Vol.

  • Nghtmre 2019
NGHTMRE's ascent to the upper echelons of dance music stardom has been nothing short of dream-like. His meticulous production and pulsating performances have cemented him as both a festival mainstay and dance music tastemaker. His collaborations with Zeds Dead, Dillon Francis, Flux Pavilion and SLANDER have catapulted him across the world, from Tomorrowland in Belgium to World DJ Fest in Seoul. NGHTMRE burst onto the scene in 2015, when Skrillex dropped his unreleased single "Street" on the main stage at Ultra Music Festival – electronic music's premiere event. That record would go on to be one of the biggest trap songs of the summer and lead Tyler Marenyi to become the darling of Diplo's Mad Decent imprint, an international festival superstar, and a resident DJ at Las Vegas's famed Hakkasan. Tyler then embarked on a near sell-out, thirty-four city "Gud Vibrations" US bus tour with best friends Derek and Scott of SLANDER. Their GV brand has seen exponential growth with a worldwide audience; it began with back to back sellout nights headlining the Hollywood Palladium, quickly followed by packing the NOS Events Center with 10,000 fans. The boys then took Gud Vibrations global with an Australia & New Zealand and Asia tours, a takeover of Red Rocks amphitheater, and a Miami Boat Party during Miami Music Week. You can also hear their weekly Gud Vibrations radio show on Sirius XM's Diplo's Revolution, with both NGHTMRE and SLANDER hosting the show. Most notably, NGHTMRE and SLANDER took the plunge and launched Gud Vibrations as an official record label in late 2018, choosing up-and-comer WAVEDASH as their premiere artist with the release of the label's first track, “Deathwish.” NGHTMRE's resume hosts a slew of successful music and star-studded collaborations, including his explorative "Magic Hour" EP with Pell, the trippy "Another Dimension" with Dillon Francis, "Save Yourself" with the Chainsmokers, "Like That" with Big Gigantic and "TTM" with Whiz Khalifa and PnB Rock.
