Anna DeForge Anna Louise DeForge (born April 14, 1976) is an American professional female basketball player who most recently played for the Detroit Shock in the WNBA. She is the first player from the University of Nebraska to ever play in the WNBA. After finding little success and playing time for several WNBA teams, she finally earned a spot on a WNBA All-Star team in 2004. HANNAH WHITISH SEASON REVIEW 104 2017-18 NEBRASKA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HUSKERS BEGIN REBUILDING UNDER WILLIAMS The Nebraska women's basketball team opened a new era with the first season for Head Coach Amy Williams in 2016-17. The Huskers were challenged by injuries, an inexperienced roster and a rugged non-conference schedule. Despite struggling to a 7-22 overall record during the season, the Huskers stayed with the process and continued to grow throughout the season. By the end of the regular season, the Huskers were clearly playing their best basketball, knocking off a pair of top-60 RPI teams - Michigan State and Indiana - at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Nebraska, which managed a 3-13 Big Ten Conference record, closed the regular season with a thrilling 76-74 overtime victory over NCAA Tournament-bound Michigan State on Feb. 26. The win for the Huskers over the Spartans avenged a 20-point loss at Michigan State on Jan. 7, a testament to Nebraska's growth and improvement during the season. "Obviously, we would have liked to find a few more 'W's' during the course of the season, but sometimes the building process and the growth process take time," Williams said. "We had some young players in our program really start to buy in, and you saw them grow throughout the season. That is exciting for the future of our program, but we know we still have lots of growing to do." A key to that growth came with the emergence of guard Hannah Whitish. The 5-9 freshman from Barneveld, Wis., erupted for a career-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists against just one turnover, and added a steal in the win over the Spartans.

In fact, over the last five years four Huskers have been chosen in the WNBA Draft, including No. 13 overall pick and first-team All-American Jordan Hooper (opposite page, top) in 2014. In 2010, first-team All-American Kelsey Griffin (top left) claimed the No. 3 overall pick in the WNBA Draft. In her first season with the Connecticut Sun, Griffin earned one of five spots on the 2010 WNBA All-Rookie Team. Griffin was No. 2 in rebounding among all rookies. Griffin completed her fifth WNBA season in 2014. Point guard Lindsey Moore (bottom left) became Nebraska's third WNBA first-round draft pick in history in 2013, going to the Minnesota Lynx with the No. 12 pick. Moore helped the Lynx win the WNBA title in her rookie season. Husker forward Cory Montgomery was a third-round WNBA pick of the New York Liberty in 2010. WNBA EXPERIENCE Nebraska is committed to helping players succeed in academics, athletics and in life. Several former Huskers have honed their skills and improved themselves during their time at Nebraska in order to advance to the professional ranks. In 2008, All-Big 12 forward Danielle Page (top) earned a spot on the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. Page helped the Sun earn a spot in the 2008 WNBA Playoffs, despite entering the league as an undrafted practice squad player. Page's unselfishness and team-first attitude made her an important part of the Sun's success. In 2007, three-time first-team All-Big 12 guard Kiera Hardy (bottom) was drafted in the third round by the Connecticut Sun. Hardy did not earn a final roster spot with the Sun, but spent the 2007-08 season playing professionally in Iceland. She also play professionally in Europe in 2008-09, along with Page and former Husker Chelsea Aubry. Aubry has also enjoyed success at the national level, helping the Canadian National Team to trips to the World Championships in 2006 and 2010. The trio will be joined in Europe by two-time WNBA All-Star Anna DeForge. The former Husker has enjoyed a long professional career since earning All-America honors at Nebraska in 1998. DeForge spent the 2008 WNBA season with the Minnesota Lynx and played for the Detroit Shock in 2009.
