Integrated Development Through Tourism Circuit: Case Study Of Integrated Development through Tourism Circuit: Case Study of Kannur, Kerala, India 1 1 Vimal Venugopal , * Sweety Jamgade 1Faculty of Hospitality Management and Catering Technology, Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore 560054 *Contact author E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Tourism is an unavoidable and important industry for all the countries, which gives contributes to a country’s economy and business. Tourism Circuit is one of the innovative strategic key to integrated development and enhances the growth of tourism business. The aim of this research was to study and develop the capable theme based Tourism Circuits with a case study of Kannur, Kerala-India. Kannur is a place where the richness of all varieties of tourism is comprised. Due to the lack of tourism promotions, Kannur fall short to gain the tourists attention. Kannur has its capability and potential to form different circuits which can comprise of its coastal areas, hill stations, culture, pilgrimage and its heritage sites. Developing theme based Tourism Circuits in Kannur will uphold the tourism development of the place. The research methodology of the study was through a descriptive approach on various destinations in Kannur through quality interactions with tourists, officials and local people. To study various Tourism Circuits, the researcher has applied correlation and comparative study through observation and various literatures on tourism circuits. Using formative analysis through qualitative and quantitative survey, the study had identified untapped tourism potential of various destinations. It was observed that majority of the populations are unaware of Tourism Circuit, but people agree to that Tourism Circuit has potential to develop the tourism phenomenon in Kannur. Kannur requires maintenance of the infrastructural facilities especially for cultural tourism and the opportunity of developing a Cultural Circuit. Gathering the attractive parameters of Kannur the researcher had formulated 6 different Tourism Circuits such as Wave Circuit, Hike Circuit, Divine Circuit, Hindu Circuit, Heritage Circuit, and Assorted Circuit which was in demand as per to the suggestions of the stakeholders. It was found that Tourism Circuits does have an impact on the integrated development of any place. Keywords: Tourism Circuit, Wave Circuit, Divine Circuit, Assorted Circuit, Hike Circuit 1. CHAPTER SIX POWER POLITICS IN KOLATHUNADU (1663-1697) In the month of October 1690, three Dutch soldiers deserted from the Dutch fortress in Cannanore and were caught by the Nayars of the Kolathiri prince, Keppoe Unnithamburan, in Maday—a place some twenty kilometres to the north of Cannanore.1 Although they tried to hide their real identity by claiming first that they were English and later Portuguese, the Nayars who were sent by the Company to track them successfully exposed their pretensions. Realizing the graveness of the situation, the soldiers desperately pleaded with the Prince not to extradite them to the Company for fear of capital punishment. Moved by their pathetic imploring, the Prince took them under his protection and ordered the Company Nayars to turn back, stating that he would take them to Cannanore personally, which, in fact, did not happen. The Company servants complained about this incident to the Ali Raja. The latter assured them he would settle the issue by promising to advise and caution the inexperienced young prince regarding this issue.

    The continuing decline of Hindus in Kerala Kerala—like Assam, West Bengal, Purnia and Santhal Pargana region of Bihar and Jharkhand, parts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Mewat of Haryana and Rajasthan, and many of the States in the northeast—has seen a drastic change in its religious demography in the Census period, beginning from 1901. The share of Indian Religionists in Kerala, who are almost all Hindus, has declined from nearly 69 percent in 1901 to 55 percent in 2011, marking a loss of 14 percentage points in 11 decades. Unlike in the other regions mentioned above, in Kerala, both Christians and Muslims have considerable presence and both have gained in their share in this period. Of the loss of 14 percentage points suffered by the Indian Religionists, 9.6 percentage points have accrued to the Muslims and 4.3 to the Christians. Christians had in fact gained 7 percentage points between 1901 and 1961; after that they have lost about 3 percentage points, with the rapid rise in the share of Muslims in the recent decades. This large rise in share of Muslims has taken place even though they are not behind others in literacy, urbanisation or even prosperity. Notwithstanding the fact that they equal others in these parameters, and their absolute rate of growth is fairly low, the gap between their growth and that of others remains very wide. It is wider than, say, in Haryana, where growth rates are high and literacy levels are low. Kerala, thus, proves that imbalance in growth of different communities does not disappear with rising literacy and lowering growth rates, as is fondly believed by many.

The conservative measures taken by the Indian Government for the conservation of Tigers was awarded by a 30% rise in the number of tigers in 2015. According to the Red Data Book of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are 47 critically endangered species in India. DO YOU KNOW? Wildlife sanctuaries in India are established by IUCN category II protected areas. India has 537 wildlife sanctuaries referred to as wildlife sanctuaries category IV protected areas. Among these, the 50 tiger reserves are governed by Project Tiger, and are of special significance in the conservation of the tiger. Some wildlife sanctuaries in India are specifically named bird sanctuary, e.g., Keoladeo National Park before attaining National Park status. Many of them being referred as as a particular animal such as Jawai leopard sanctuary in Rajasthan.
