NF Program 2017.Pages 2 2017 Nederland Music and Arts Festival Welcome to the 19th annual Nederland Music and Arts We like to call it Colorado’s most intimate music festival because spectators are never more than 200 feet from the stage and anyone can get right up to the front and see the artists’ faces and fingers. No Jumbotron needed! There is room to dance and hula-hoop or just lay back and look at the sky and enjoy the wonderful music. We have some great artist booths this year. There are several yummy choices for delectable dinners, three breweries, and a meadery to tempt your taste buds. Our long-time sponsor Indian Peaks Spring Water has all the wonderful water you need (bring your water bottle!) so make sure to stay hydrated while having fun! If you have little ones with you, make sure you don’t miss our special kid’s tent with face painting and fun stuff to do while at the fest. We have a fantastic mix of music for you this year, so whether you want to dance your days and nights away or just sit back and relax, we’ve got a fantastic weekend for you! The NedFest Staff The Peak to Peak Music Education Association organizes and hosts the Nederland Music and Arts Festival, more commonly known as NedFest. The PPMEA was formed in 2011 following the death of NedFest founder “Michigan Mike” Torpie to continue the festival and use its resources to support music education programs for local kids. It received full recognition as a 501(c)3 organization in 2014. So far, the PPMEA has given a grant to fund an after school music teacher at the TEENS, Inc. Teen Center, provided funds for a matching grant for the Nederland Elementary School to get instruments for beginning students, and gave several scholarships for music lessons to promising, young local musicians in need. These scholarships not only help the young musicians but also help support our local instructors as well. Don’t miss the PPMEA Young Musicians Showcase Sunday at noon when several local kids will perform and when we will be awarding this year’s grant! Our Friend and Founder Michigan Mike Our friend and festival founder Michigan Mike Torpie was a college radio DJ in Michigan when Leftover Salmon caught his ear, prompting him to follow the band as its unofficial videographer and eventually move to Nederland. He had been booking and promoting shows in Nederland for several years and even had a mini-festival in 1996 in Chipeta Park when he decided to start NedFest in 1999. He recruited several friends to help with the big project, a couple of whom are still on the NedFest board to this day. Through 13 years of festivals he paved the way and learned many lessons that have made it possible for the rest of us to carry on and keep the spirit of live music in Nederland alive. We are the Friends of Michigan Mike! 4 2017 Nederland Music and Arts Festival Our PPMEA and NedFest Staff: Rob Savoye PPMEA President, Permitting, Security, and Medical Coordinator Jeffrey Swift PPMEA Board, Hospitality Coordinator Deb D’Andrea PPMEA Board, Vending Coordinator Marc Latiolais PPMEA Board, Back Stage Manager Danielle Laramie PPMEA Board, Artist Relations Kristen McFarland Talent Buyer, Graphics Suzanne Teele Merchandise Manager Nichole Elmore Box Office Manager Tanya Bokat Kids Tent Coordinator Mark Errante Website Developer Steven McMillian Zero Waste Amanda Kneer Bookkeeping 2017 NedFest Original Poster and T-shirt Artist: Derek Perez NedFest logo by Rizzi. Since its inception in 2004, Big Organ Trio has emerged as a band with a truly unique voice. Their acclaimed debut CD was released in 2006 and has led to thousands of music and merchandise sales in addition to concerts across the U.S. and internationally. B.O.T. 's groundbreaking approach to the organ trio format has drawn the attention of Keyboard Magazine, who featured the band in 2006, and many of the world 's greatest Hammond players. The combo has played with Keith Emerson (Emerson, Lake, & Palmer) and shared the stage with Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band). Gregg Rolie (vocalist/organist from Santana) and Tony Monaco (world renowned jazz organist) have also commented on the trio 's fresh and inventive sound. High profile performances at major music festivals such as 10,000 Lakes Festival (MN) and Fillmore Jazz Festival (SF) as well as shows with the likes of Robby Krieger (The Doors), Umphrey 's McGee, Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), and Stanton Moore (Galactic) have helped fuel the buzz. With an exploding fan-base worldwide and gigantic internet presence the band has won fan voting polls on websites such as Jambands.com and seen their debut album become the top selling Hammond Organ album on CDbaby.com. B.O.T. music can also be heard on networks such as E! Channel and radio programs around the globe. Mike Mangan (Hammond B3 Organ), Bernie Bauer (Electric Bass), and Brett McConnell (Drums) all share a great love and respect for the old school spirit of blues and jazz improvisation.

The film follows actor Woody Harrelson as he takes a small group of friends on a bio-fuelled bus ride down the Pacific Coast Highway. Their goal? To show the people they encounter that there are viable alternatives to our habitual, environmentally destructive behaviors. We see the hostility these pilgrims encounter, and watch as their ideas are challenged from within and without.

  • Keller Williams
Keller Williams Keller Williams released his first album in 1994, FREEK, and has since given each of his albums a single syllable title: BUZZ, SPUN, BREATHE, LOOP, LAUGH, HOME, DANCE, STAGE, GRASS, DREAM, TWELVE, LIVE, ODD, THIEF, KIDS, BASS, PICK, FUNK, VAPE, SYNC, RAW, SANS and Add, those who have followed his career will know this. Each title serves as a concise summation of the concept guiding each project. GRASS, for example, is a bluegrass recording cut with the husband-wife duo The Keels. STAGE is a live album, and DREAM is the realization of Keller’s wish to collaborate with some of his musical heroes. THIEF is a set of unexpected cover songs, KIDS offers Keller’s first children’s record, PICK presents Keller’s collaboration with royal bluegrass family The Travelin’ McCoury’s, and RAW is a solo acoustic album. Each album showcases Keller’s comprehensive and diverse musical endeavors and functions to provide another piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is Keller Williams. Keller’s collaborative and solo albums reflect his pursuit to create music that sounds like nothing else. Unbeholden to conventionalism, he seamlessly crosses genre boundaries. The end product is astounding and novel music that encompasses rock, jazz, funk and bluegrass, and always keeps the audience on their feet. Since he first appeared on the scene in the early ’90s, Williams has defined the term independent artist. And his recordings tell only half the story. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. For most of his career he has performed solo.

  • April 2019 Newsletter.Pub
Newsletter Date Volume 7, Issue 4 PARK Roanoke’s Newsletter© www.PARKRoanoke.com April 2019 How to Navigate In a Traffic Circle or Roundabout Don’t be a Clark Griswold and drive in continual circles for hours on end as in the famous European Vacation movie. While we don’t have many of these in the Roanoke area, there are more being built throughout our driving area. Often called traffic circles, roundabouts are designed to make intersections safer and more efficient for drivers while avoiding long waits at a standard traffic light. It’s important to know the rules of the road with roundabouts. There are a few key rules to know when driving in a roundabout: 1. The vehicle already in the circle has the right of way 2. Do not Stop in the roundabout 3. Avoid driving next to an oversized vehicle 4. Always watch for pedestrians and pedestrian signal lights. 5. Stay in your lane and give your turn signal when you are ready to exit Prior to entering the roundabout, choose a lane. Once you see a gap in traffic, enter the circle and proceed to your exit. If there is no traffic in the roundabout, you may enter without yielding. To go straight or right, get into the right lane; and, to go straight or left, enter the left lane. Because large vehicles may need extra room to complete their turn in a roundabout, drivers should remember never to drive next to large vehicles in a roundabout. Roundabouts are designed to accommodate vehicles of all sizes, including emergency vehicles, buses, farm equipment and semitrucks with trailers.
