Swede Nicky - With a three assist night against the Vancouver Canucks, his 40th career game with at least three assists, Nicklas Backstrom, reached the 600 career assist mark, becoming the first player in franchise history to reach the milestone. Backstrom became the first player from the 2006 NHL Draft class to reach the 600 assist mark, and he currently has 130 more assists than Claude Giroux, who has the second-most assists from the 2006 NHL Draft class. Backstrom became the 87th player in NHL history to reach the 600 assist mark and, according to NHL Stats, the 27th player in NHL history to reach the mark in fewer than 850 games. Additionally, Backstrom became the ninth Swedish-born player and the second-fastest Swede to reach the mark (Peter Forsberg reached 600 assists in 670 games). Backstrom has set up 52 different teammates on the road to 600 career assists, including 234 helpers on goals by Alex Ovechkin (39 percent). He has only set up two other players at least 40 times (T.J. Oshie: 48; Alexander Semin: 40), per NHL Stats. Backstrom followed his 600th assist with his 601st, and with his latest assist, Backstrom passed Henrik Sedin (600) for the most assists since the 2007-08 season, Backstrom’s first season in the NHL. Backstrom leads the Caps with 11 assists this season, which is tied for second in the NHL, and six of them have been primary assists.

Evgeny Kuznetsov leads the Capitals and is first in the NHL with five power play goals. Nicklas Backstrom (2g, 6a) and John Carlson (1g, 7a) lead the NHL in power play points, while Alex Ovechkin (4g, 3a) and Kuznetsov (5g, 2a) are tied for third through games played 10/23. Additional Capitals Notes Kuz Control – Evgeny Kuznetsov's 13 points (5g, 8a) is tied for team lead this season and is tied for the eighth most in the NHL. All five of Kuznetsov's goals have come on the power play this season, two shy from his career high of seven power play goals set during the 2017-18 season. In his last 59 games, including the regular season and playoffs, Kuznetsov has recorded 79 points (30g, 49a). Over a full 82-game regular season, that equates to 110 points. During that span, Kuznetsov has recorded 22 multi-point efforts, including four four-point games. Kuznetsov has 278 points (85g, 193a) in 348 career games, and his 0.80 points per game ranks fifth among all players selected in the 2010 NHL Draft. In two starts against the Oilers last season, Holtby stopped a combined 67 of 70 shots, and has won four of his last fives games against Edmonton.

Osh-Babe - T.J. Oshie recorded a goal and an assist against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. That marked the third multi-point game for Oshie this season his 114th multi-point game of his career. Oshie's nine points (5g, 4a) at even strength leads the Capitals and is tied for 14th in the NHL this season. Oshie has been on the ice for eight goals for at five-on-five and just two goals against through eight games, tied for the third-best differential on the team (Carlson: +5, Vrana: +5, Backstrom: +4). Since Oshie joined the Capitals in the 2015-16 season, his 82 cumulative goals rank second on the team.
