1 Ruabon News Letter 235 UPDATED: 06.08.2018 The winner of the Ysgol Rhiwabon Dolls House raffle was the Rev. Kate Tiltman. Rev Tiltman was presented the Dolls House by Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans, Headteacher, when she came to collect the house recently. The Dolls House was made by the school Design and Technology department as part of their own Enterprise Company work to raise funds for the department. The winning ticket was blue 111 to 115 2 St.Mary’S ChurCh in WaleS PriMary SChool Four boys from St.Mary’s Church in Wales Primary School Ruabon were delighted to win in the Year 5 section of the Wrexham Primary Schools Tennis Tournament. The school is delighted to have won a first prize for the second year running. On the first day of the tournament the boys were drawn to play against three different schools and won all their games - singles and doubles. On the second day they had to play against four different schools and again won all their games to win the Year Five Tournament (photo above). This enabled them to return to Wrexham Tennis Centre for the North Wales Finals. Five teams took part in the Year Five section. The overall result was that they came second in their group. Teacher, Mr Jonathon Steele said that the boys came second in a very tricky group - losing against the eventual champions by just a single point on a tie breaker. It was 6-6 and it was the first to seven: they were beaten by just one point! 3 Ruabon Railway Station Friends of Ruabon members continue to work on keeping the planters on the station well-watered; free of weeds; “planted-up” when necessary; ‘litter pick’ on a regular basis and keep in touch with Arriva Trains Wales. -

Ruabon News Letter 293
1 Ruabon News Letter 293 Part Two 30.09.2019 Part of the (as yet unfinished) History of Friends of Ruabon and Ruabon Station Friends of Ruabon were first approached by Susan Elan Jones MP, in 2017 to campaign for easy access to both platforms of Ruabon Station. It started with the idea of making a track up from the lower bridge over the Afon Eitha, to platform two; but this was deemed to be too steep. Then of course there was the petition, which everyone signed and promoted, sheets of 1,000’s of signatures were collected from Ruabon Library, The Medical Centre, Renées Hair Salon, Tracey’s Nails, many shops and all the Pubs; members even went so far as to put a petition into one of the shops in Llangollen, for those who use Ruabon Station, to join in the campaign. Susan Elan Jones then put the group in contact with Sheila Dee who is both one of the ‘team’ making up the Chester/Shrewsbury Partnership and a transport officer for WCBC. Sheila in turn, introduced the group to the Station Adopters’ Manager, Geraint Morgan. Friends of Ruabon now care for the planters on the platform and were delighted to receive more comfortable benches for both platforms which were enjoyed by waiting passengers during the Summer months. To celebrate the fact that everyone in Ruabon was now working together on this campaign and that we also had the backing of those who could make a difference, Friends of Ruabon arranged an event on the station, to welcome and thank everybody who was able to come. -

Ruabon News Letter 262 25.02.2019 St.Mary's Church in Wales Primary School, Ruabon, Spent a Whole Week Focussing On: “Compassion and Kindness to Others”
1 Ruabon News Letter 262 25.02.2019 St.Mary's Church in Wales Primary School, Ruabon, spent a whole week focussing on: “Compassion and Kindness to Others”. Mrs Morgan's Year Two class held a special assembly which was enjoyed by many parents, grandparents and friends. The children performed a lovely sketch where some of the children were dressed as Super Heroes. The moral of the sketch was that: “You don't have to be a super hero to be special!” The children read from Corinthians in the Bible: “Love is patient, Love is kind” and spoke about this. They recited the poem, "Love is a circle," sang and did actions to ,"It must be love, love, love," and ,"A little bit of kindness,". A power point showed the children's pictures of acts of kindness and the children scattered hearts at the end of the service. The parents and friends enjoyed tea and coffee after the service. Thanks to Helen Probin who sends in these reports on behalf of St Mary’s School. 2 Ruabon WI members held their February meeting at 7pm in Ruabon Village Hall. The poet and author Peter Read had been invited and gave a very amusing and entertaining talk on: “Philip Yorke: The last Squire of Erddig”. Some of the members had known Squire Yorke and recalled their own memories of him. Members were informed of the Community Transport event to be held by AVOW at Plas Madoc on 29th March, and were encouraged to attend if possible. The next coffee morning at St Michael's Close will take place on Thursday 21st March, at 10.30 a.m. -
