1 Ruabon News Letter 235 UPDATED: 06.08.2018 The winner of the Ysgol Rhiwabon Dolls House raffle was the Rev. Kate Tiltman. Rev Tiltman was presented the Dolls House by Mrs Melanie Ferron-Evans, Headteacher, when she came to collect the house recently. The Dolls House was made by the school Design and Technology department as part of their own Enterprise Company work to raise funds for the department. The winning ticket was blue 111 to 115 2 St.Mary’S ChurCh in WaleS PriMary SChool Four boys from St.Mary’s Church in Wales Primary School Ruabon were delighted to win in the Year 5 section of the Wrexham Primary Schools Tennis Tournament. The school is delighted to have won a first prize for the second year running. On the first day of the tournament the boys were drawn to play against three different schools and won all their games - singles and doubles. On the second day they had to play against four different schools and again won all their games to win the Year Five Tournament (photo above). This enabled them to return to Wrexham Tennis Centre for the North Wales Finals. Five teams took part in the Year Five section. The overall result was that they came second in their group. Teacher, Mr Jonathon Steele said that the boys came second in a very tricky group - losing against the eventual champions by just a single point on a tie breaker. It was 6-6 and it was the first to seven: they were beaten by just one point! 3 Ruabon Railway Station Friends of Ruabon members continue to work on keeping the planters on the station well-watered; free of weeds; “planted-up” when necessary; ‘litter pick’ on a regular basis and keep in touch with Arriva Trains Wales. As a result of this co-operation Arriva Trains Wales has donated and placed bench seating on both platforms. Passengers are using the seating and have commented favourably about the planters. ** Land Behind Park Gates Dave Green, a Friends of Ruabon member, has continued to use his tractor to cut the grass and clear the undergrowth behind the Park Gates since it was cleared approximately two years ago; working closely with other members of Friends of Ruabon and Growing Ruabon to ensure that this space is a pleasant area for residents to enjoy. 4 Thank you to Mike Jones for sending in copies of the following three documents, These must be of interest to everyone in Ruabon and the surrounding district. Mike is a former Ruabon resident who still cares about what happens in and around our village. I have had a number of residents contact me regarding this development, Planning Application P/2018/0555, 0423 & 0053 Many support the supermarket (even when the initial application some 5/6 years ago was rumoured to include Sainsbury’s). The planning permission for the site was agreed in 2014 on Planning Application P/2014/0021. The difficulty at the moment is that the site is being developed in three phases, the infrastructure along with the supermarket and coffee shop, followed by the houses and then the business units/hotel/pub. There is no detail planning for the houses (phase 2) nor the business park (phase 3). My concern with phase 2 is very much the number of properties (and type mix i.e 2bed, 3bed, 4bed, etc) and also the need for a primary school as both Ruabon primary schools as well as Rhosymedre and Johnstown do not have available spaces to facilitiate the number of properties being rumoured for this site. I do need to point out that this area comes under Cllr Joan Lowe’s Ward of Penycae and Ruabon South though I am conscious that this development will put increased pressure on already stretched services within my ward. The High Street houses were due to be demolished at the beginning of this year, however we have bats and therefore there is protective legislation WCBC have to follow under the Habitats Regulations. The good news is that we have secured the funding into this year and once the process has completed, the properties will be demolished with 3 new houses build to building regulations standards. I completely understand your concerns regarding the recent antisocial behaviour and criminal activity. It is of great concern to me too. I am currently liaising with the Police Inspector for this area and trying to arrange a Community Meeting ASAP. As soon as I have any more details, I will come back to you. Thank you to Dan Elder for sharing this facebook reply from Dana Davies who is Chair of Ruabon Community Council and WCBCouncillor for Ruabon North.
