Wistanswick Fete 2015

This year’s Fete will be held on Saturday July 18th, together with the Horse Show, Dog Show, Garden & Produce and all the other things that go on to make it a great day out!.

The fete is organised by a handful of volunteers; it has been the same people for the last few years, we need new blood, particularly as the older members of the committee will be looking to reduce their involvement in the day to day planning. The organisation is not particularly onerous, just regular contacts and discussions plus following a checklist of the jobs that need doing.

This is a plea to you out there who enjoy the fete and would like to contribute some of your time and skills to ensure that the fete goes on for years to come, otherwise it will be in danger of finishing for good.

The planning process for this year is just starting so the Committee will welcome offers of help, no matter how small; we will be holding a meeting shortly, if you

would like to get involved please contact Richard Wright on [email protected] or call 01630 638520 or Jackie Jeffries on 07554 948168 or Liv Wilcox on 07880 738456.

PHASE 2 DEVELOPMENT AT DUTTON CLOSE

A Public Meeting held on Wednesday 25th November 2014 to discuss a proposed Phase 2 development at Dutton Close was attended by 22 members of the public – the landowner’s agent presented the plans for a potential mixed development of starter homes, family homes and bungalows. Opinion in the room was generally against the application & the Parish Council felt they did not have a mandate to support a phase 2 for Dutton Close and that fifty five housing units would be too many for the Parish as a whole - the Parish Council rei terated its policy position of 20 to 25 units as part of the SAMDev proposals for the Dutton Close site.

A NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN FOR STOKE UPON TERN

The Parish Council is developing a Neighbourhood Plan for Stoke upon Tern so that the local community can have more say over the way the parish develops in the coming years. The Stoke upon Tern Neighbourhood Plan will be part of the statutory development plan for the parish and will have to be taken into account by when decisions are made on planning applications.

The next step is to publish the formal notice and documents as required by th e regulations; these will be on the Council’s consultation webpage (see below) for the statutory 6 week period and are also displayed on the Parish noticeboards, on the website stokeupontern.info and here.

At the same time we will be holding a range of workshops where all people and parties within the Parish can come along and contribute. Details of dates and venues will be circulated when they have been finalised. Please try to attend the relevant workshops – it is your plan and it must include the feedback we get from residents & other stakeholders.

There will be workshops for different elements covered by the Neighbourhood Plan, namely the needs of Eaton on Tern, Ollerton, Stoke upon Tern, Stoke Heath, Tern Hill and Wistanswick, plus Roads and infrastructure, Local businesses and farmers, Amenities and Traveller, Army, Air force and Prison liaison.

PLACE PLAN FOR THE PARISH

The review of our place plan statement has taken place. The Parish Council sets out our priorities for spending the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) which we may receive as a consequence of development in the parish.

Details of new CIL priorities:  Street lighting replacements, parking and play area improvements Dutton Close.  Improvement works to Rights of Way, Play, Sports & Community facilities.  Improved off street parking, footpaths and traffic calming/reduction measures including enhanced signage.  Commercial and Settlement ‘gateway’ improvements through planting and signage.  Improvement works to road ditches and field drainage systems to elevate flooding.

EATON UPON TERN DEFIBRILLATOR A vital piece of life saving equipment, which could restart the heart of someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest, is ready for public use in Eaton Upon Tern. The village had a small amount of money from the millennium celebrations, and after a village meeting, they decided that buying a defibrillator was the best use for the money. The village held a BBQ in the summer to raise funds and each household made a small donation. Further support came from the British Heart Foundation, Shelleys Signs, Morning Foods, 3JC Ltd and Farmers Haulage. The village has also subscribed to an alert scheme, whereby the ambulance service will cascade call all the volunteers if there is a 999 call in the immediate locality. The first volunteer able to respond, will take the defibrillator to the casualty. The first 10 minutes after a heart attack are critical and we can react quickly and fill the time it will take for the ambulance to arrive and hopefully improve the chances of the casualty making a full recovery. We would really like to encourage other villages in the parish to consider buying a defibrillator for their area. We can offer advice and a checklist of all the hurdles we came across, and the information we gathered along the way. Contact Janet Furness by email at [email protected] if you would like advice on how to proceed. The more local communities that have a defibrillator and register for the alert scheme, the more effective our response can be in an emergency. Alternatively you can speak to Cliff Medlicott, Ambulance Service’s Community Response Manager for Shropshire on 07884 050 877 or email [email protected], or the Community Response Department on [email protected] or 01384 215 855.
