As a Confident Girls community fundraiser you are helping the Netball Foundation make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged girls across Australia. This year we’re aiming to raise $250,000 towards community netball programs such as our Inclusion NetSetGO program and community introductory programs – giving more than 5,000 young girls a chance that they wouldn’t ordinarily have to play netball and thrive, both on and off the court. We’re proud of that and you should be too. What’s more, fundraising for Confident Girls is fun and every fundraiser goes into the draw to win some great prizes from the Australian Netball Diamonds. Let’s get started! We know that sport is a powerful tool in empowering girls to be happy and healthy. Every week, millions of girls around Australia walk off the netball court with the confidence that comes from being part of a team, enjoying the bond of a shared experience and the benefits of regular exercise. They also build the kind of resilience that is learnt from winning and losing, and taking the good with the bad. But for many reasons, not all girls have the chance to participate. In Australia, more than 600,000 children live below the poverty line and don’t have the opportunity to be part of a sporting team. Many families cannot afford to pay sport fees, buy a uniform and shoes to play in, or get transport to sporting events. Some schools don’t offer sports activities or have the money to buy equipment. And unfortunately, many girls lack the self-confidence to get involved or their cultural background doesn’t encourage them to be physically active. In 2016 Confident Girls is aiming to raise $250,000 to give disadvantaged girls the opportunity to play netball. More importantly, we’re giving girls a chance to have fun, make friends and be healthy, confident and resilient. So by supporting Confident Girls, you are giving more girls the chance to be the best they can, on and off the court.
