Microfinance Summit 2010 Microfinance India Summit 2010 was organized by ACCESS Development Services on November 15 - 17, 2010 in New Delhi. The theme of this year's s u m m i t w a s ' M i s s i o n o f Microfinance: Time to Reflect and Reaffirm'. Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan participated as a discussant in the session on 'Risks in Microfinance: Current Environment and Mitigation Strategies'. The summit allowed consensus building, sharing of views, exchange of Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & experiences, and dissemination of Managing Director, Bandhan (extreme right) at the knowledge and information on sector panel issues. Mr. Ronendra Chowdhury, General Manager Operation, Mr. Partha Sarathi Basu, Deputy General Manager HRD, Mr. Satyajit Ghosh, Deputy General Manager Operation, and Ms. Arpita Sen, Manager Finance also attended the event.

Bangladesh delegates visited Bandhan A 22-member team of delegates visited from 29th October to 14th November, 2010 to gather knowledge and hands-on experience on microfinance, local governance, resource mobilization and land settlement activities.

The delegation comprised of public representatives of Government bodies as well as field- level officials of implementing agencies of the Government. The same is responsible for implementation of "Char Development and Settlement Project" in its 3rd phase.

They devoted time to visit not only the microfinance operations in the field but also the development activities of Bandhan. Before departing, they also visited the head office in Salt Lake. They had the opportunity to interact and share experiences with Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan who honored the delegation with souvenirs made by Bandhan borrowers.

Bandhan attended the 24th Skoch Summit India's largest leadership summit, 24th Skoch Summit was held in New Delhi on November 10 - 11, 2010. 'Delivering Equality, Growth and Social Justice' was the theme of the forum. Mr. Abhishek Chakraborty, Operation In-charge of Bandhan's Delhi circle office attended the event.

Bandhan inaugurated ICICI Bank's Phoolbagan branch ICICI Bank invited Mr. Shibankur Roychowdhury, Diector, M P Jewellers as Chief Guest and Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan as the Guest of Honour for the inauguration ceremony of their Phoolbagan branch on November 10, 2010 in . Both of them inaugurated the branch amidst the presence of distinguished dignitaries. Ms. Maneeta Rathore, Manager Finance, Ms. Arpita Sen, Manager Finance, and Mr. Anirban Sarkar, Sr. Manager Fund also attended the inauguration program.

Borrowers of Bandhan showcase their craftsmanship at Karigar Haat Karigar Haat, a handicraft fair which took place between November 10-19, 2010 at Salt Lake City, Kolkata was a huge success as artisans from all corners of India set-up kiosks to display their craftsmanship. Some borrowers of Bandhan were able to exhibit and sell their crafts at this fair. We are thankful to Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for providing a 100sq feet stall to Bandhan.

Roundtable on Responsible Pricing ACCESS ASSIST organized a round of brainstorming sessions on November 17, 2010 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan participated in a roundtable on 'Responsible Pricing: The State of Practice'. The focal point of the discussion was to examine the full range of approaches to responsible pricing of loans, promoting competition, return on equity limitations, interest rate caps and competitive transparency.

PRAHELIKA '10 International Management Institute (IMI) organized Annual Finance Summit PRAHELIKA '10 on November 16 -17, 2010 at the IMI campus in New Delhi. Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan was invited to attend the summit as a key speaker for the session on 'Role of Microfinance' on November 16, 2010. He discussed about the new initiatives and innovation, challenges and practices prevalent in the microfinance industry. CRISIL Leadership Summit CRISIL Leadership Summit was organized by CRISIL Ratings on November 19, 2010 at The Park Hotel, Kolkata. Mr. Partha Pratim Samanta, Deputy General Manager Operation attended the forum.

SIDBI organized Partners' Meet In order to review the present microfinance crisis, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) organized Partners' Meet on November 19, 2010 in Kolkata. Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan along with Mr. Ronendra Chowdhury, General Manager Operation attended the meeting. The basic objective was to deliberate upon the emerging situation in microfinance sector in India and its implication in West Bengal.

Events of the month Conference of Select MFIs Project 'Financial Inclusion Improves Sanitation and Health' (FINISH) along with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) organized the Conference of Select MFIs in New Delhi on November 22, 2010. The objective was to understand the problems and challenges faced by the MFIs while involving themselves in matters relating to community development. Mr. Abhishek Chakraborty, Operation In-charge, Delhi circle office, Bandhan attended the conference.

Workshop by International Finance Corporation (IFC) Mr. Abhijit Ghosh, Asst. General Manager Finance, Bandhan attended a workshop on Participation of Indian MFIs in a Credit Bureau organized by International Finance Corporation (IFC) on November 23, 2010.

Expansion of Development activities to the North East Bandhan's widely acclaimed Targeting the Hard Core Poor (THP) Program will now cater to the ultra poor segments of Assam and . This was recently announced through a series of subsequent asset transfer programs at various areas in both these states between November 23- 26, 2010.

Apart from the local dignitaries, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman & Managing Director, Bandhan and Mr. Ronendra Chowdhury, General Manager Operation also attended the inauguration program of THP and One of the Hard Core Poor beneficiaries received h e a l t h p r o g r a m . N e a r l y 6 0 a goat at the inauguration ceremony of THP beneficiaries received farm and non- Program in Tripura farm assets which would help them to piece together their lives. The plan is to reach 500 beneficiaries in each state by the March 2011. Delivery of health services have also begun in Tripura.
