POSTER PROJECT

Homework: Find a song you like. Make sure the song is appropriate for class. Find a picture of the artist to go with your quote. It has to be a song that you can for the class, so you need to have it on cd or on a flash drive.

Make a poster that has the text from your song, the picture of the artist, and something you wrote as well. Your writing should be telling us about why you chose that song, why you think it’s important. It is okay to have small posters! We are going to hang them around the room.

Paragraph 1: Biography information on the artist including five sentences about that person and their background. DO NOT just copy this off of the Internet. This needs to be your original writing. You may find the facts on the Internet but put it into your own sentence order and wording.

Paragraph 2: Explain why you picked this song. Five sentences beginning:

I chose SONG by ARTIST because… Explain what that song means to you and why you think it is important.

Write one or two sentences that conclude your paper.

Presentation: Present your poster to the class. Think about how you present. You need to do your best job speaking loud and clear, make sure you have done the whole assignment so your presentation is long enough, and should be able to tell that you have taken time on this project and done your best job possible. After presenting your poster you will play the song for the class.

King without a Crown by Matisyahu

You're all that I have and you're all that I need Each and every day I pray to get to know your peace Wanna be close to you, yes I'm so hungry You're like water for my soul when it gets thirsty Without you there's no me You're {Say} Sometimes the world is dark and I just can't see With these, demons surround all around to bring me down to negativity But I believe, yes I believe, I said I believe I'll stand on my own two feet Won't be brought down on one knee I'll fight with all of my might and get these demons to flee Hashem's rays fire blaze burn bright and I believe Hashem's rays fire blaze burn bright and I believe Out of darkness comes light, twilight unto the heights Crown Heights {yah} burnin' up all through the twilight Said, thank you to my God, now I finally got it right And I'll fight with all of my heart, and all a' my soul, and all a' my might

[Chorus:]2x What's this feeling? My love will rip a hole in the ceiling (I give/Givin'} myself to you {now} from the essence of my being And I sing to my God, songs of love and healing I want Moshiach now, time it starts revealing What's this feeling? My love will rip a hole in the ceiling (I give/Givin'} myself to you {now} from the essence of my being And I sing to my God, songs of love and healing I want Moshiach now. {ya}

Stripin' away the layers and reveal your soul Ya gotta to give yourself up and then you become whole You're a slave to yourself and you don't even know (You) Want to live the fast life but your brain moves slow If you're trying to stay high, you're bound to stay low You want God but you (can't/couldn't} deflate your ego You're already there, then there's nowhere to go You're cup's already full then it's bound to overflow If you're drowning in the waters and you can't stay afloat Ask Hasheem for mercy {and} he'll throw you a rope (You're) lookin' for help from God; you say he couldn't be found Searching up to the sky and looking beneath the ground Like a King without his Crown You keep fallin' down You really want to live but can't get rid of your frown You('re) try(in') to reach unto the heights and wound bound down on the ground Given up your pride - then ya heard a sound Out of night comes day {and} out of day comes light {said} Nullified to the One like sunlight in a ray, (Makin'/Make} room for his love for a fire gone blaze, (Make/Makin'} room for his love for a fire gone blaze,

[Chorus:]2x What's this feeling? My love will rip a hole in the ceiling (I give/Givin'} myself to you {now} from the essence of my being and I sing to my God, songs of love and healing I want Moshiach now so it's time we start revealing

What's this feeling? My love will rip a (hole/skylight} in the ceiling (I give/Givin'} myself to you now from the essence of my being And I sing to my God, songs of love and healing (I want Moshiach now)

And} See, I lift up (my/mine} eyes where my help come from And I seen it circling around from the mountain Thunder! You feel it in your chest You keep my mind at ease and my soul at rest You're not vexed

{When I} Look to the sky where my help come from {and I} Seen it circling around from the mountain Thunder! You feel it in your chest

(You keep my mind at ease and my soul at rest You're not vexed [freestylin'])

{Ziggy-yiggy-yo viggy-yiggy-yo Said Thunder! You feel it in your, I feel it in your, Thunder! You feel it in your, I feel it in your, Thunder! You feel it in your, I feel it in your, Yo ho ho..ah! ... Woo!

What's this feeling? My love will rip a hole in the ceiling Givin' myself to you from the essence of my being Sing to my God

Matisyahu is the Yidish pronunciation of the biblical name Matthew. His real name is Matthew Paul Miller. He was born in 1979 in West Chester, Pennslyvania. My favorite is the 2004 album Live at Stubb’s , which peaked at number 32 on the billboard charts. Matisyahu is a traditional (Hasidic) Jew that combines his religious beliefs with modern reggae sounds. He has incredible talent, and he is also able to beat box fairly well. I chose the song “King Without a Crown” by Matisyahu because it is a song about finding meaning in our lives. My guess is that the King without a crown is a person who has a lot of material possessions and pieces of their life in place, but they are still not really happy. I think the song is about finding true happiness within yourself. To me, Matisyahu says that the way to do this is to give yourself up and live helping others. There is a lot about finding God in this song that I don’t understand, but I really like the message of giving up yourself in order to find yourself. I think that if you keep trying to be a real genuine person and make a difference, then one day it will hit you that you have accomplished a lot of positive things, and you will be truly happy.
