11 March, 2020: The Latest: passengers disembark in Singapore A cruise ship barred from Thailand and Malaysia due to coronavirus fears has returned to Singapore a week after it set sail from the city-state. Passengers wheeling luggage off the were ushered to waiting coaches and ferried away Tuesday morning. Most were not wearing masks. Some passengers told reporters at the scene everything was great and that everyone aboard the ship was fine. No cases of infection with the new virus has been confirmed in the ship. Singapore authorities previously said doctors would check people before they disembarked. The ship was refused docking in Thailand because it carried 64 Italians and that country has been the epicenter of Europe's outbreak. Malaysia also turned away the ship. Singapore allowed the ship to dock because it had been scheduled and all passengers on board had been screened before the ship sailed. 11 March, 2020: CORONAVIRUS: UAE BANS CRUISE SHIPS IN BID TO STOP VIRUS SPREADING As coronavirus continues to spread, the number of confirmed cases is leaping by thousands each day and the death toll is stacking up. After a number of outbreaks on board cruise ships, most notably , there's been growing fears that they are turning into hotbeds for the virus. The residents of La Reunion pelted rocks at one ship while the Dominican Republic turned away another, despite the fact that there were no confirmed cases of coronavirus on board. On Sunday, the US warned its citizens not to travel on cruise ships. Now, the UAE, alongside India, has gone one step further by banning cruise ships altogether. 11 March, 2020: Coronavirus: Cruise ship with infection fears held off Belgium - THOUSANDS stuck on board CORONAVIRUS cases are feared onboard an AIDA Cruises cruise ship in Belgium. The vessel is now being held off the coast of Zeebrugge. There are concerns two people may have coronavirus, local news sites reported. The cruise ship has been confirmed as the AIDAmar, belonging to German cruise line AIDA Cruises. West Flanders provincial governor Carl Decaluwé has banned the cruise ship from docking. 11 March, 2020 (originally published on the 08th March 2020): US – CDC Advisory: COVID-19 and Cruise Ship Travel - CDC recommends travelers, particularly those with underlying health issues, defer all cruise ship travel worldwide. - Sustained community spread of respiratory illness caused by COVID-19 has been reported in many countries. - Cruise ship passengers are at increased risk of person-to-person spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. - Older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease. This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships.
